have you ever looked fear in the face
AND SAID I JUST DON’T CARE?

Dawn use to hate heights. They scared the living shit out of her in fact, but despite that she found herself hiking five miles up a rugged terrain that lead to the infamous Hollywood sign that overlooked the entire LA basin. It was amazing to think how many people, famous or not, had looked up at that sign and thought their dreams were coming true. Unfortunately there were plenty of people whose dreams came crashing down in the end, but this Kansas girl was one of the lucky ones and was doing exactly what she set out to do when she moved to LA five years ago. Working on the sets of photo-shoots, runways, tv shows, and movies as a make-up artist had been her dream ever since she was a little girl.
After being out all night until the early hours of the morning at a runway after party she wasn’t ready to go home especially after having a few drinks in her. She wasn’t drunk by any means, maybe just a little buzzed, but she was still too hyped up from all the fun to go back to her apartment. Glancing up at the hill she was climbing she pulled her designer dress, a perk of working on photo-shoots, higher up her thighs as to not catch it on anything that would ruin the beautiful tan and sparkly gown. Grant you it was stupid to go hiking in such an outfit but with it being seven thirty in the morning she didn’t feel like going home to change. Dawn was just glad she had brought flats with her so she could change out of her high heels. She had taken this hike on a regular basis but never when the sun was rising. It was still dark enough to see the city lights illuminate the area in an array of different colors and because of the rising sun the horizon gave a hue of purple and pink. Feeling the breeze she readjusted her white shawl closer to her skin just as she reached the end of the trial leaving her with an amazing view of the city. Allowing the dress to fall back over her legs as she let out a content sigh happy with her accomplishment.
When she moved to LA she took rock climbing lessons to get over her fear of heights. Years ago she won’t have been able to stand anywhere near the edge to overlook the city and with all the tall buildings and flying she would have to do it was something she knew she would have to get over. Once in awhile Dawn would still get those formidable feelings when she was high in the air, but yet at the same time she would feel exhilarated knowing she could get through it in the end. It simply made her feel alive.
The trial she took was a popular one. Some people were doing their morning jogs/ runs, while other were simply walking their dogs. Running a hand through her hair she couldn’t help but let out a giggle knowing she must have looked ridiculous standing there dressed the way she was, but by that point she could have cared less. She planned to stay there for an hour or so to enjoy the fresh air and to finish watching the sunrise, before heading back down the path. Dawn didn’t know what she would do afterwards, but she had a good idea that it would involve a steaming cup of coffee… but for now she would live in the moment and watch as the city came to life.
