MANAGEMENT
Entertainment Lawyer
Primary Role- Legally represent artists and/or companies within the entertainment industry
Responsibilities
- Draft client contracts, negotiate contracts with studios and review contracts from managers, film studios, etc.
- Can file suits over pirated films, prevent invasion of client's privacy, ensure stuntman have adequate medical coverage, etc.
- Help new faces understand how the industry works (their performing rights, what contracts to choose, where to find managers/agents, etc.)
- Assist in marketing/merchandising deals, real estate transactions and tax issues
- Know what deals are being made and who is influential to find best deals for clients
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree + minimum of 3 years earning law degree
Manager
Primary Role - Guide the professional careers of their clients and oversee day-to-day business affairs
Responsibilities
- Advise clients on professional matters, long-term plans, and/or personal decisions that may affect their career
- May assist client in finding an agent or deciding when to leave current agent
- Establish connections between producers and/or film studios and their clients
- Note - Managers cannot negotiate contracts. Only lawyers and agents have this power
Publicist
Primary Role - Generate publicity for clientele and manipulate how they are portrayed in the media
Responsibilities
- Gain positive media coverage for client
- Must know how to turn a disaster into a blessing (spin bad press into a golden moment)
- Attend interviews to make sure client doesn't comment on sensitive subjects or make remarks that will make them look bad
- Write press releases and network with members of the media
- Organize press tours (make travel arrangements and accompany the client)
- Network with online bloggers and read/respond to comments on social network sites
Requirements
- Long work hours and expected to be available to client day or night
- Attend parties and media get-togethers to possibly meet with influential journalists
Studio Executive
Primary Role- Manage the overall operation of a film studio and preside over day-to-day operations
Responsibilities
- Oversee productions the studio takes on
- Constantly reading scripts to decide what films go into production
- Network with agents, managers, producers, directors and writers
- Schmooze with celebrities at premieres and watch director's films to form connections
- Analyze financial statements and movie performance reports
- Responsible for financing, producing, publicizing and distribution of films
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (master's is a plus)
- Several years of management experience
- Heavy work load; can take home as many as 10 scripts per weekend

- About $100/hr or $234,770 annual salary
Talent Agent
Primary Role- Find jobs for their clients. Clients can be anyone involved in the entertainment industry including: actors, directors, producers, etc.
Responsibilities
- Defend and support the interests of the client
- Solicit client's head shots, film reels, scripts, etc. to studios and production companies
- Find scripts for clients (actors or directors) to read; find auditions for actor clientele
- Negotiate client contracts/salaries and profit-sharing deals with film studios and distribution companies
- Make sure clients are booked (flights, hotels) and accommodated properly (favorite food, etc.)
- Find sponsorship and promotional opportunities for clients (commercials, campaigns, clothing franchises)
