by all accounts, benjamin is something of a loose cannon. he lives his life with little regard for others and make a point of it to have the primary concern of his life be his own well-being and pleasure. that being said, he has little regard for the feelings of others, and is more likely to shrug off others' opinions than to even pay it any mind. it's not all because he doesn't care about other people per-say, though that may play a minor role; it's more of a defense mechanism. he refuses to allow himself to get close to people for the sake of not feeling terrible when they make the inevitable march out of his life similar to his father. he's become adept at building up such walls ever since his father died, and hasn't let them down for many people yet.
his life is driven by a desire to experience the "finer things in life". he takes long vacations to the most remote locations possible with as few people as possible. he doesn't enjoy spending his time with large crowds and would rather not have any sort of attention that isn't absolute praise and worship. regardless, given his family's history, he does find himself to get some bad press at times. his strategy for avoiding press involves simply alienating himself from his family and others who would damage his reputation simply by associating with them. his avoiding tendencies have landed him in trouble on more than one occasion with his family, dangerous as they may be, but he still refuses to become associated with their line of work or harboring the secrets they would have him. it speaks to his absolute abhorration for the issues of others and a general disinterest in helping others deal with their said problems.
given how isolated from the rest of the world benjamin makes himself, he finds it imperative that he has a few friends with whom he can be normal with. these said friends he holds very dearly to himself, and are the only people who he's willing to listen to in a serious situation. he holds them on a pedestal of sorts, and only really becomes interested in a friendship with them because they have characteristics that he has in common with them or that he admires. in fact, anyone who he comes to interact with on a personal level has something that he admires. these few people he comes to call friends are the only ones he is capable of showing compassion or empathy for. it is with those few people that he would be considered an actual human being, capable of feeling sophisticated emotion.

history evaluated. benjamin was the first child born to benjamin bishop towers and bianca alma towers, both two highly respected "officials" in the criminal underbellies of boston. with a bank account funded by robberies and embezzlement, the family provided nothing but the best for their child and the two who soon followed afterward, spoiling them with exotic trips to distant lands and all the best clothes and toys that money could buy. benjamin's childhood was spent, for the most part, outside of his actual home in boston and instead on vistas in europe and asia. he and his siblings received homeschooling from their mother, formerly a teacher before she married to their father who pulled her from working an honest job to primarily mother his children, and aid his business affairs secondary. the children were, for the most part, ignorant of their parent's sketchy means of making ends meet. their father's aptitude for lying lead them to believe that he was working as a higher-up in boston politics, hence his long hours and their surplus of money.
it was on one of the three children's rare weeks spent in boston at home that their family's facade would come crashing and burning down into the ground. only eleven years old, benjamin was awoken by his mother's screams as the fbi broke into their house to arrest her as an accessory to several murders and robberies. an innocent world was left in pieces as the three children were deposited in the care of a distant aunt living on the other end of the city; this end of the town was far more impoverished than what they'd come from. their trips across the world soon came to a halt. they were enrolled in public schools and were forced to integrate into the life of children who lived off of below-average wages. benjamin, the oldest, and by association the most capable of understanding the situation, resented the unexpected and drastic life changes. he began to resent his father for making them live a lie, and his mother for fostering it. as he grew older, he would resent his siblings for not seeing the flaw in their father's ways, and even wanting to carry on his work.
he distanced himself from his family, especially as he went into high school and then college where he could immerse himself in studies or extra-curricular activities. it was the theater that allowed benjamin to spend as much time away from his family as possible. soon afterward, he would attend college at ucla majoring in film studies so that he could begin his career in hollywood soon after he graduated. he neglected to keep up with his family following his acceptance to college so he couldn't dissuade them from getting involved with their relatives who were still working in the business. he probably wouldn't have cared anyway.
following his graduation from college, he immediately started to look for work in acting, falling back on the funds his parents had saved up for him in his youth, an ironic fact given his disdain for the source of the money. however, he used it to sustain him shortly before he started to find work. now, having spent an extended amount of time in the industry, he has stopped working as an actor for a role behind the scenes as a producer.
