personality evaluated.
Benjamin Lucas is a people pleaser and easily bullied when it comes to his family, as much as he can't stand that fact. That's why he lets his parents set him up with every woman they see fit and why he allows his brothers to take advantage of him. He's incredibly shy and introverted although he has plenty he wishes he could say to loads of people. The words don't come out easily for him though, and he usually winds up imagining how great the conversation could have gone if he could just put his shyness aside. Because he's so quiet and a bit awkward, many people think he's a bit of a snob. The thing is, Ben is probably the biggest sweetheart you'll ever come across. His family, on the other hand, is completely full of snobs that believe they're better than everyone else. Unfortunately though, some of his family's ideals have rubbed off on him and sometimes he's a bit judgmental (he almost never expresses his judgments out loud) and has the tendency to look down a little on people that he doesn't think had the "proper" upbringing. He definitely looks down on those who can't speak proper English, not that he's completely perfect with it himself.
Ben loves music and has been playing the piano since the age of eight and the guitar at the age of fourteen (his parents didn't really like this much). He also loves the days that he gets to stay in and watch TV or play his guitar or just do whatever he wants without having to worry about needing to be anywhere. He's a decent cook, thanks to his Gran, and a buff at grammar, thanks to his parents sending him to a prep school that drilled it into his head. He doesn't like the unknown or risk, but deep down he wishes he could just do something completely reckless. Ben's also a bit of a hopeless romantic, but he doesn't like to admit that. He blames the classic movies his mother used to force the entire family to watch on that. Because his mom is a psychiatrist, he's had to learn how to hide how he's feeling on his face, as to avoid her psychoanalyzing him. So, sometimes it's really hard to tell what he's thinking because he's so straight faced a lot of the time. His mother's ways also taught him how to read people, but he's mediocre at best and usually winds up reading them in a way that makes them come off in a bad light. He has a hard time putting himself in the other person's shoes and that can cause some conflicts.

history evaluated.
Ben was born in Albany, New York, but spent most of his life traveling around with his family because of the family business. They moved to many places including London (from the age of 8-13), Paris (when he was too young to really remember), Seattle, Boston, New York City, and Los Angeles. Not once did Ben go to a public school; that's probably where the other half of some of his judgmental attitude comes from. When they got to LA, Ben was in his senior year and the family was going to pick up and move to Connecticut right after he graduated. He decided to stay, however, and try a hand at the music business, although he managed to go to Stanford and keep a 4.0 GPA. After struggling for five years and having his family bring him down, he finally got himself a record contract at an independent label. The album flopped, however, and Ben moved back to Albany, where his parents (who had moved back) proceeded to set him up with every high society woman out there. He went out with every one of them and hated every second of it. They wore clothes that were obviously too expensive, they had six different forks to eat with at every meal, and the conversation they attempted to make with him were all dull(although he did admit that all the women had excellent grammar). The only one he didn't completely despise was Lucy Wells, and that was mostly because she had spilled her water on her shoes and laughed instead of throwing a fit. Otherwise, she was much like the rest of them, who couldn't understand why he wanted to be a musician instead of a lawyer or a doctor or an entrepreneur.
Benjamin was always the black sheep of the family because he didn't want to be what his parents wanted him to be. While that would make you think he was a rebel, he really wasn't. In fact, his career choice seemed to be one of the few things he ever "rebelled" against when it came to what his parents wanted from him. His brothers were always praised on their accomplishments while Ben was told to try harder or be better. For whatever reason, everything Ben did wasn't enough for them and it caused him to become completely insecure about himself at a young age (that was probably the real source of his introverted ways). His brothers loved that poor Ben was constantly being picked at and they picked at him right back. Because of this, he's extra sensitive when people tell him to try and do something differently, but he usually holds the annoyance or anger he feels in because he knows it's not their fault he was always being picked apart growing up. Plus, he wants to be a better actor and for that to happen he needs the advice.
Ben's Gran was the only one in the family that didn't pressure him and actually encouraged him to do what he wanted, and he always sought comfort in her. He loved her more than anyone and looked up to her because she would say what she wanted without censorship and did whatever she pleased. When he was twenty-five, she died, and that pushed him to move away from home and go back to LA. Only this time, he would try out acting. His Gran always told him he would make a great actor if he decided the music career path wasn't right for him. Just recently, his father went back to his offices in LA and he's afraid his parents are going to try to set him up and control him more, but he's become so fed up that he's considering cutting them out of his life for good.

roleplay sample.Matt had forgotten he was supposed to meet Toni at their old high school until his mother mentioned it. He was in the middle of a bowl of Cap-N-Crunch and had proceeded to spill it everywhere when he realized he forgot. Of course, he had an excellent excuse for forgetting---even when his amnesia went away, if it went away, he would use that excuse on a lot of things. "Oh, I'm sorry I forgot to walk the dog today. Remember that accident I told you about? Yeah, totally damaged my memory."
He apologized quickly to his mother, promising he would clean his mess up later. She looked a bit annoyed, but he also knew that she wouldn't yell at him. She knew this meeting with Toni was important and not just because it was an attempt to jog his memory. It wasn't even because Toni was his closest friend. It was really because, as much as Matt did not like admitting, he sort of liked her. As more than a friend. A lot more, in fact. The past few weeks were hell on him, but she stuck by him and he figured he must have meant a lot to her if she was that dedicated. How could he help himself? He was sick, a victim, he would think to himself whenever he thought of Toni and the butterflies appeared. She was beautiful and he was vulnerable. Those were his excuses for liking her, but deep down he knew it was just because---with or without amnesia---Toni was, without a doubt in his mind, an amazing girl. As far as he could remember (in other words, not much) he hadn't felt like that before he got into the accident. Maybe his amnesia was an eye opener for him. After all, when you pretty much grow up with someone, it can be hard to really notice them.
As he walked to the school---he refused to get into cars anymore since it triggered panic attacks---the instructions given to him by Toni in his hand, Matt took it as an opportunity to dig through his memory. When he was alone and walking around, he found it easier to dig up memories. Of course, Toni's presence always helped him as well. Today, though, he was trying really hard to figure out about his dad, and for some reason that wasn't something he felt Toni was good at helping bring memories up of. He supposed it had something to do with it being really personal, but he had heard so much personal stuff about Toni that it didn't really make much sense for him not to share his not-so happy stories in return. He wondered if he held things back before the accident, if he didn't tell Toni the whole truth and now no one would know but the ghost of the old him.
The school came into view and saw Toni walking on the stone ledge. He shoved his hands into his hoodie---a light blue Hurley one his mother insisted was his favorite; it was very comfortable, so he could see it---and he laughed quietly under his breath. As he got a little closer, he could hear her singing "I Kissed a Girl" and it took all the self-control Matt possessed to not burst into guffaws at the entire scene. He grinned as he watched her, waiting for her to feel his eyes on her back, and wondered if she was too much into her own world to realize that he was there. Shaking his head and rolling his eyes, the smile still in tact, he cleared his throat loudly. Then, for good measure, he said, “I kissed a girl once too. I quite enjoyed it myself.” He was rather proud of what he said because it felt like the old him that he had heard in the stories told by his mother and friends, especially Toni. Maybe even just being near the school was enough to bring his memory back. Or, maybe just being near Toni acting more like herself and less like she had to play the hero, which is what Matt sometimes felt she was doing, whether that was her intention or not.
