It was safe to say that Ace Edwards was miserable. If there was ever an unhappy man on the earth, it was him. He was more remorseful for cheating on his wife than he ever thought he'd be, and now burdened with seeing his wife every day was hard. Actually, he wasn't so sure he could still call her his wife. Even though he vehemently refused to sign the papers - whether it be because he wanted to fix their marriage or because he only wanted her as miserable as he was - he was wondering when she was going to bring a lawyer into the mix and send his ass packing so to speak. He didn't live in their house anymore anyway, he was never home to do that. He hadn't had a break since beginning to film Slayer by Night where he was in Canada for several months. Upon wrapping up from that, he was sent straight down to New Mexico to prep for Saving Hope, the first television series he'd signed for. He was actually curious as to how different taping an hour episode for every week would be different than a three hour movie, and he was beginning to sort out the huge differences. For one, he could be much more laid back. They made the episodes weeks in advance, so the pace was semi-relaxed, whereas with every movie he'd done he always felt like he was rushing to finish. Another major difference was the caliber of material he was expected to crank out. Even though this was still a drama series, it wasn't three straight hours of non-stop drama, which was relieving for him.
In general, his career was going great. But his personal life sucked. It was awful having to see Lindsay all the time, watch her walk around with that vengeful look on her face, then came all the rumors about her and Cash. Of course that made it hard for Ace to be an impartial director and treat Mr. Cooper the same way he treated everyone else. He always got the urge to make whatever scene Cash was in extremely anal, making them film it over and over dozens of times. He only really indulged himself once, and that was basically it. He loathed having to be mature and civil, but he decided that in the end, it would be worth it. The man was a good actor, and even though he was a total prick, Ace had a little bit of respect for him. Sure he was pissed about the rumors of Cash and Lindsay sleeping together, but he couldn't let it influence his job. And aside from that, he kind of felt like he deserved it. He cheated on her for a long time, so was it fair that she was doing this to him? Kind of.
Then there was what happened last week. He'd been working late in his office, minding his own damn business, and the next thing he knew, Lindsay was all up on his jock for no reason other than she wanted to be all up on a jock. Yeah, Ace enjoyed having sex with his wife, but did he enjoy being used? Not at all. He felt totally stripped of his manhood - not in the literal sense, of course -, like he wasn't the same kind of guy he used to be. And he wasn't, that was obvious. He was learning he cared for his wife more than he wanted to admit, and that hurt, knowing she didn't give a fuck about him anymore and he was learning how to love her. But that was life, and something the middle-aged man was just going to have to accept.
It was a Saturday, and they weren't filming today but Ace still found an excuse to hang around set. He was relaxed, not wearing anything fancy, just perusing around trying to get ideas... or, well, keep himself busy. He found a little bit of pride in his work, so he latched onto it and tried to never stop. He always seemed busy with something, whether it was preparing for the next filming debacle, or helping a stylist choose how to produce something he wanted. He just wanted to be happy again. He wanted his wife back, his life, everything. He knew it wasn't coming back, but thinking about that was too hard for him. He'd gone soft thanks to the past few months, though a lot of people wouldn't guess it. He dug his hands into the pockets of his jeans as he perused the costume area, looking through all the options he had for the next episode. He absolutely hated the fact that Lindsay was supposed to be playing a pregnant woman, and he didn't know why he hated it so much. Maybe because they'd talked about kids, and how they really didn't want any, but yet she signed up for this role. He knew he shouldn't be taking it personally, but he definitely was. He shook his head, moving away from the racks of clothing.
Ace sighed, and upon leaving the room that smelled of new clothes, he heard a noise coming from the other room. He wondered who in the right mind would be here on a Saturday night when they weren't required to be, when he'd given specific instructions to his actors and crew that they were supposed to enjoy their weekend. "Hello? Someone there?" he called, feeling stupid for doing so. Maybe it was his sub-conscience calling out for the interaction he so secretly craved.
