annika has a sense of humor. what kind of sense of humor is up to you to decide. she has been known to crack many a dirty joke, and is quite sharp when it comes do dishing out insults. in fact, she can be down right cruel if provoked. annika knows what makes people tick and knows exactly what bothers them the most. this perhaps makes her a weapon, since she can pick out others' weaknesses and harp on them. this also makes her a certified bitch, which she's okay with.

she is argumentative. she can fight to the death (metaphorically speaking) for something she believes in or just something she believes is right. if she was raised to believe that two plus two equaled fish, then she would hold to that. it's hard to change annika's mind about anything, and it's much harder to force your opinion on her. she could almost be seen as close-minded, as she doesn't open up to foreign ideas very easily. she's stubborn like a mule, but is also stubborn with her loyalty. it takes a lot to make annika forsake a friend, and she will always remain true to those people she holds dear.

annika has trust issues. she does not open up to people very easily, and there's not a lot of people who really know about her past. she will not just open up and talk about where she's from or what she's been through. however, if by some miracle you gain her trust and she confides in you (and it takes a lot), she can become quite distant. this is her way of keeping herself from getting hurt or becoming vulnerable. if someone forsakes her trust or breaks it in some way, there's virtually no way to get it back. if she has been wronged, there will be slim to no chance that the person will be getting a second chance. annika is a firm believer in the idea that people never really change.

annika has a real soft spot (imagine that!) for animals. she has a hard time relating to actual people, but she has no problem relating to animals. she volunteers often at animal shelters, though she never wants to be a part of PETA. she doesn't wear real animal fur or skin, and tends to rant to anyone who will listen about the literal torture animals endure to make handbags, shoes, coats, etc. she's rescued a fair share of animals in her time and likes to help find homes for the cats, dogs and others that she rescues.

this girl has an opinion about everything. she will go out of her way to research something just so she can form her own ideas about it without being influenced by other people. she reads the newspaper frequently (and sometimes browses those ridiculous tabloids as well) to see what's going on in the world. she's not a strongly politically affiliated person, but she does have her opinions about key issues and will voice them freely. she will not hesitate to tell you why your opinion is wrong and will make a great effort sometimes to cite sources and articles just to make a point.

as interesting as her family sounds, they're not all they're cracked up to be. her family hails straight from the land between the tigris and euphrates rivers and they are chaldean. annika's family is bred catholic and they are all blessed with dark skin and dark hair. however, her parents have lived in new york all of annika's life and most of their own. annika was born almost exactly nine months after valentine's day, 1986. no one was surprised. they did hail from the fertile crescent, after all. a beautiful, green eyed baby girl was born. four short years later, another baby was born, anais. the two girls grew up as most sisters did--fighting. annika wanted to do things with her friends and anais wanted to join in. as they got older, they grew closer as their parents said they would. in fact, when they reached high school, annika might have even been protective of her little sister.

most of her relationships changed when she met a man named ahmed. it wasn't traditional of her family to set up arranged marriages, but ahmed's family wished him to marry her and began talking to her family about the arrangements. it was odd, since her family was catholic and his was muslim. in fact, she wasn't even sure if she liked him all that much. they'd met one day in an ancient history class at columbia university (she's smart too, imagine that). he seemed like a sweet enough person and he held a genuine interest in her. after a few months of courting, annika decided that it might not be so bad being with ahmed. he was interesting after all, and could teach her many things about his culture and him about hers. she eventually fell for him, and fell hard. daily, he would tell her things like "i will love you until the stars fall to your feet." or "the ocean does not have enough space to hold my love for you." cheesy things. annika got used to the idea of being with him, and couldn't wait to be married to him. but a year into the relationship, annika began to notice that ahmed was becoming controlling. he was becoming excessively interested in other things and didn't want to share them with annika. his life outside of their relationship did not concern her.

this wasn't too big of a deal to annika. she liked to have her privacy and imagined that ahmed did too. annika started to hang out with other people around the college and began showing interest in make up and fashion. this was unacceptable to ahmed and he made it clear that he did not approve. he simply declared that annika was forbidden to associate with those people. at first, annika disregarded this, because she was not about to take orders from another person about who she could and could not hang out with. when annika showed interest in getting a tattoo, ahmed snapped and threatened her. annika, being a born and bred new yorker, was not intimidated in any way. she simply told him to stick it where the sun didn't shine. from that moment on, her arranged marriage was off, and she saw to it that he would never try to patch things up or contact her. annika continued to pursue her passion for make up and designing, almost in spite of ahmed. annika dropped out of college at twenty-two, moving straight into the heart of new york city to make a name for herself.
