It was nice to be home again. Well, America at least. Devon breathed in the not so fresh New York air once she stepped off the plane. It was so different from the fresh air that was all over Europe. Devon had finally done her dream trip and packed her bags to head to Europe. And managed to keep her job. mostly because she was in between jobs at the moment and didn't have to worry about costume making. That was another thing that had been nice about the trip. She was able to relax and not worry about sizing or damage from the stunts. She really hated when her outfits got ruined so quickly. On some jobs, she didn't try as hard as she should because of that problem but she never failed to do her job right.
Devon gathered all her luggage and double checked her phone for the message she was waiting for. Instead of flying straight home to California, Devon signed herself up for a landing in New York. And there was only one reason Devon would ever put herself in New York: Jack Bailey. She preferred California, but then again, she had done a number of things for her best friend since college. Oh those dark, dark, days. He had no idea she was home though, and Devon stopped her trip early since she'd been to everywhere she wanted to be in Europe and it was no fun missing Jack. The message she was waiting for was the text that would tell her of Jack's exact location. Devon had called Jack's agent before boarding her plane and asked him to keep discreet tabs on jack and let her know. To Devon's surprise the agent had agreed to it; she never seemed to like Devon. Then again, most girls didn't when they realized that Jack's best friend was a girl. And Devon used that upper hand all the time since most girls were heart breakers. She would kick their ass with no questions asked.
The five foot five girl slid into the back of a cab, looking down at her phone as soon as it beeped.
"Where ya headed, miss?" the cab driver asked, looking at Devon through his rear view mirror.
"Le Chat Noir Cafe." Devon read the text out loud, a little confused as to why Jack would be at a cafe. He was either being weird or on a date. Devon hoped it was a date. She'd be able cause some trouble for the newly divorced Jack Bailey. She smiled a little to herself and sat back as she watched the New York City buildings go by. It was easy to see why so many people were attracted to New York. It just held the name of fame and new lives.
One perk of having a name was that Devon didn't have to worry about the little things, like having her luggage dropped off to Jack's temporary residence in New York so that she wouldn't have to lug it around with her. After handing her driver the cab fare, she stepped out onto the sidewalk and squinted her eyes as they adjusted to the sunlight. Once she spotted the cafe she skipped over, very skillfully in her heels, and pushed through the front doors without even looking at the seating staff, "Someone's waiting for me." She told them promptly with a smile. She came off as rude a lot times, though she never meant to be as snobby as she seemed. Deep down she was the most caring girl her friends had ever seen. She had two different sides that people had to figure out. Then she looked around for the familiar figure of Jack and his slightly messy brown hair and built frame he took care of.
She spotted him sitting alone, much to her surprise, and walked over, "Well look at this gorgeous man." she muttered behind him, leaning over to give him a hug, "Why are you eating all alone?" She asked, after she finally let go and slid herself onto his lap. It was an automatic reaction and Devon did it without much thought. A lot of people did a double take since they weren't dating but seemed like a couple on most days. Jack was sometimes uncomfortable but Devon did it anyway. Oh the love of friends.
