lucie wasn't really sure why she liked being around josh. he was a jerk, to be sure. he probably just wanted sex from her. their relationship was really only based on physical things (although they did have fun together when not fooling around). sometimes it felt like all they kept the other one around for was pleasure. and...lucie was okay with that. for a while, it was all she'd ever known. it didn't cross her mind that she and josh might actually try for some kind of relationship based on anything but looks and physicality. it was entirely possible, sure. but that would require the both of them to man up and admit to their problems. well, it would require lucie to man up and admit to her problems. she knew why she had issues with relationships, settling down and committing, but she wasn't sure why josh did. he might have had some problems in the past, but as i said, lucie and josh were purely physical. and again as i said, lucie was okay with that. she wasn't ready to man up, and if josh wasn't going to do anything, then neither was she.
and besides, sometimes it was nice to have someone want you, just physically. sure, emotions were great. there was nothing like having another person stare into your eyes deeply and tell you their feelings and bare their soul. but at the same time, it was nice to know that the animal instinct was still alive, that there was raw attraction--and that's what she felt for josh. she was attracted to him physically, and occasionally (or more than occasionally) it was nice to indulge in that attraction. after all, that's what our bodies are made for right? lucie liked to take full advantage of that fact and there's no doubt that she's a physical person. most of the time, she would choose to have a purely physical relationship rather than a relationship that required any sort of thought or emotion. it was just easier not to care...or pretend not to care. it was easy to ignore emotion and pretend it didn't exist, and only deal with it when absolutely necessary--and for lucie, those times were few and far between.
it being a lazy sunday afternoon, josh and lucie had decided to meet up for coffee. it was a far cry from their usual "let's meet at my place and you know what," of course, but it was a nice change. she was okay with relaxing and chilling out with josh. but of course, the fashion designer in lucie wouldn't let her leave the condo without trying on every outfit in her closet. it was a daily routine, to be honest. if she was feeling very springtime-ish, lucie would find a sundress, a sun hat, some flip flops and very vibrant makeup. if she was feeling sad, gloomy or it was raining, she tended to wear gray, heavy things. today, she was feeling very earthy. it couldn't have had anything to do with a documentary she'd watched about the oil spill and how to keep the earth green or anything...but i digress. she felt very natural, and decided to wear her favorite wooden bangles with some gladiator sandals. since it was steadily warming up outside, she opted for shorts instead of the normal skinny jean. her makeup reflected her mood as always and lucie shot out the door when she decided she'd delayed her meeting up with josh for her appearance long enough.
deciding to take the public transportation instead of wasting gas on her own car (because hey, there was enough in the ocean!), lucie counted out some bus fare money and sat in her seat happily. she could feel it was the makings of a very good day, and no matter what kind of mood josh was in, she was sure it would only get better. once she was close enough to starbucks, lucie motioned that it was her stop and waved goodbye to the bus driver. in new york of course, she would have gotten flicked off, but it was nice in los angeles that people were actually...you know, friendly. nearly skipping into the coffee shop, lucie ordered a light caramel frappuccino with a slice of lemon pound cake, her usual when stopping there. she almost didn't need to tell the clerk anything, because he was almost finishing her sentences for her. taking the cup and the plate gratefully, lucie seated herself at a window table to keep an eye out for josh.
