Open to anyone and closed to the first replier. NOTES: I know this sucks! I just needed a thread for Alfie, but I had no idea what to do with no one to post to. I apologise! 4D6091
Alfred hating flying. It was pure and simple, he hated having to take plane journeys because it terrified him to fly. But it was a necessity for him, unless he planned to never go to New York to see his children or travel for work, or indeed travel to his home country of Austria. It was just one of those necessary evils he had to endure.
Alfie had been in New York while his fiancée Erika was away in France having attended the Cannes Film Festival. He had attended also during the start and took a flight back to New York, where both his children Caroline and Christoph resided. After an awkward dinner together, he didn't see Caroline for the duration of his visit but that was to be expected, he was well aware she was not his friend at the moment. And all because he was set to marry a woman ten years his junior, whom he had been dating for a year. She thought it was ridiculous and ever the stubborn one of the family, continued to show her disapproval of this union by avoiding her father. Especially since he had relocated to Los Angeles with Erika, Caroline took this personally, as if Erika was trying to steal him away. He made the choice too, he was the one who suggested they look for a Los Angeles property in the first place.
The flight back to LA was alright, he had taken anxiety medication prior to boarding but the bumpy landing had left his nerves shot. He had jelly legs from the moment he stood up out of his seat on the plane to the moment he sat down on the seat at the bar in the airport! He always went to one of the restaurants, bars, cafés or eateries in an airport after a flight, to just calm himself because often enough, he was jittery and jumpy. It was in no state to be. The Austrian had taken as a seat at "Daniel's Bistro + Bar" where he ordered a pint of Heineken beer. Alfred checked his watch, it was nearing 4PM. He calculated in his mind that it was nearing 1AM, where Erika was. So he thought it best not to call her to say he had landed. She had probably sent him an email anyway, she knew how much it scared him. He'd have to check later, he could just about send texts on his cell phone. But read emails? God no. This was the man who once (or twice…) accidentally referred to the Blackberry as a Blueberry.
Ever since featuring in "Inglorious Bastards" as the SS Colonel Hans Landa, Americans now identified him as a celebrity. Sometimes people would come up to him in the street and praise him for his role in the film, others congratulated him on his win at the Oscars for best supporting actor. But his most entertaining fan-moment was if he ever went into his local Starbucks back in New York and a certain young man was working. He would always take Alfie's order and recite a quote from movie which his character said. "Wait for la crème." It tickled both the young man and Alfie. "Stupid thing." he mumbled to himself, clumsily thumbing through the menu on his cell phone having just exited where he actually wanted to go. He had a Samsung...something something. He had no idea, but he knew he was trading it in for a non-touch screen phone. "No, I don't want to go there." said the frustrated Austrian sighed. See? Cell phones made the non-technological folk of the world go crazy and start talking to phones.
