There are plenty of people who say that Central Park is at its grandest in the early hours of the day. That's before the usual hustle and bustle of people come crowding into the park for their usual rituals of walks, picnics, sports games, and general sight seeing. There were always tourists milling around the grounds, constantly snapping shots with their cameras, gawking at the scenery and gibbering excitedly about their experience in the Big Apple. As fun as it was to run across new people and see newcomers enjoying their time in one of the city's most notable landmarks, there were times when you just wanted to be alone to soak it all in yourself. That was why Charlene was at the park at eight o' clock on a Saturday morning. So it wasn't like she was the only one there because in a city as big as New York, what were the chances of her being there completely alone? But there were still only a few other people there, far less than the amount of visitors that would normally be there in a few hours' time.
What did you do in Central Park early on a Saturday morning when you were practically alone? Exercise of course! Lena jogged through the park with her ears plugged up and her iPod nano held tightly in one hand, blasting Telephone by Lady Gaga. Her hair was actually pulled back into a ponytail for once, which was something new for Char since she almost always preferred to wear her hair down. Okay, so there were some people in the park who thought it odd to see a woman going for a morning jog wearing a sports dress and matching sneakers, but they didn't know Charlene Howard. Charlene was a fashionista who was always concerned with looking her best, and yes that even included when she exercised. Just because she had three older brothers who liked to bully and pick on her didn't mean she had to turn out to be a complete tomboy. So what if most people liked to go running in sweats, or in shorts and a tank? She liked to stand out and do her own thing anyway.
So that was why Lena was jogging through Central Park in a tennis dress that stopped somewhere around the middle of her thighs and green and white sneakers to match. She stopped to take a break when she reached the pond and she pulled the ponytail out of her hair, letting her damp hair fall around her sweaty shoulders. The good thing about wearing a dress when you were running was that it was loose and comfortable. So maybe it got a little ruined when you were sweating in it, but was there really anyone around to notice? Nope. So why worry? After she had caught her breath, Charlene plopped down on the grass by the water and stretched her legs out. Some people would've thought it was slutty to go running around in a dress, but she honestly didn't see it that different from running around in booty shorts. At least her dress was a little longer. Besides, she was wearing black spandex underneath it so if there was a guy hanging somewhere around here, it wasn't like he was going to get an eyeful of anything.
Charlene yawned as she pulled off her sneakers and cotton socks, revealing pedicured feet with pretty pink toenails. It was nice being able to sit there and relax after a long run through the park. All she needed now was a back massage and she would be in heaven. Lena let the soft grass engulf her feet and tickle the tips of her toes. She giggled softly to herself as she rested on her back and looked up at the sky, which was slowly but surely get brighter and less pale. The breeze felt cool and refreshing against her hot skin which still showed beads of sweat. She knew it wouldn't be long before the city really began to come to life and she decided that she would stay there for just a few more minutes before getting up and heading home. But for now she was content with lying by the water while the park was still peaceful and quiet, save for the music buzzing through the headphones of her iPod.
