AND SHE SHNES JUST LIKE A
• STAR, AND I SWEAR I KNOW HER FACE •
Living in the television and film industry was tough, even if you're the top rated star there is. Paparazzi seem to have their own tent pitched outside your house every night of the week and before you've even thought about a date it seems to be all over the papers and magazines. Yes, living in the public eye was hard but it was the chosen life for some. Alexander Jackson was one of those people and was currently trying his best to improve his standing in America as a television and film star. Perhaps he had a few doubts now and then about whether or not to return home, but his mind had always been made up when visiting a certain New York landmark...Central Park.
Everytime he visited it, it amazed him. Those that had grown up with it on their doorstep or had been living in New York for most of their life would probably walk past it or through it without thinking twice about it. It was just something they were used to having. But for Alexander, it had been a whole different world. Of course there were parks in London, there were parks all over the United Kingdom. But none were as awe-inspiring as Central Park, but it did help him get through his first few months of home sickness. He would venture into the Park and find a small spot that he could sit, close his eyes and pretend he was in Hyde Park or at White Hart Lane before a big match.
But as he looked around it today, there was something different about it. He was no longer homesick for a start, but it seemed that the sun was shining that little bit brighter. He put that down to his company for the day rather than any change in the weather. Since moving to New York, there had been one woman who had completely restored his faith in the female gender. After his heartbreak from ex-girlfriend Emmy back in London, he was determined to stay clear of women for a long time, happy to be alone. But when he had met this woman, Hollie, he had thrown that out the window. She was fun, she was kind and she had helped him through one of the most difficult times in his life. He had moved to New York with the feeling that his career had peaked and was over, which was the same situation his love life was currently in. But with her jokes and laughter, her friendship helped him quit drinking and so far, along with a few weak moments, he's stayed on the wagon ever since.
Reaching up, he adjusted the red wool cap on his head as he kept an eye out for her appearing. They had arranged to meet up that day in Central Park for a chat, one that he desperately needed at that time. After his bizarre experience days earlier in a New York cafe, he needed to try and clear his head. This woman had approached him when he was reading through some scripts, sat down on his knee and, without any warning, had planted a rather passionate kiss on his lips. Then, she introduced herself and walked away. He needed to clear his mind, get back to the task of getting a new part, to getting back in the race. He was thankful when Hollie had called the day before and asked to meet up, he counted down the minutes until the two were to meet and now it was finally here.
He couldn't help but feel stupid as he stood out in the mild day with a wool cap on, almost as bad as Colin Farrell must have felt when Family Guy made his wool cap a laughing stock to millions of people worldwide. But this was different, he had to wear this one. Not because it matched his outfit, not because it was cold...simply because his mother had knitted it and was insistent he had worn it had some point during his stay. And, although she wasn't able to know if he had worn it or not, he felt obliged to spend some time with it on his head. Pulling it back a little, he looked down at his casual outfit of a plain grey t-shirt with dark blue jeans and wondered if he should have worn something a little more formal. This was his good friend after all, she deserved a little dressing up. But before he could consider it anymore, he heard a familiar voice nearby.
Looking up, his smile became wider as he spotted Hollie approaching, the mischievious side in him suddenly kicking in.
