It had been raining on and off for most of, if not all of the morning. This was winter in California. There would be no snow, unless you went to somewhere like the mountainous areas near the border of California and Nevada. Just rain and cloud and lower temperatures that to your southern California native, could be called cold. But to visitors and tourists, it was probably a happy medium. Nothing too hot, but nothing that required a thick winter coat. Autumn and spring were two of the best times to visit a place like Los Angeles, during the summer it could get sticky but during those two seasons, it was much more balanced. Joey had always lived in California and he really didn't feel like he would be happy anywhere else. He loved travelling, seeing family who lived out of the state but this was his home. Huntington Beach was where he was born and spent the first thirteen years of his life.

And Anaheim was where he evolved as a young man, attending high school before moving off to Los Angeles for college. And that was where he lived now, with his two children. Annabelle was eight and Jamison was five. They had their 'uncle' Eli coming today, to hang out with Joey because Joey didn't always get opportunities to go out hang out with his buddies and visit bars like he used to do. He was a single parent now, he had bigger responsibilities. So occasionally, his friends would come to him. Anna had a friend over and the two were watching a Disney movie in her room while trying to do their homework together and Jamie was playing with his remote control car with the young boy who he went to school with, who lived across the road from them. Joseph was going to be glad for some adult company, having been surrounded by four kids, and a puppy for the past two hours! It was in Huntington Beach that Joey first met Eli. But at the time, Elias was a friend of Jacob Murdoch, not Joey's.

But when Joey was able to, he would drive Jake back to HB to see Eli after the Murdoch family moved to Anaheim, so the boys could hang out for the day. And when Elias was all grown up the pair eventually became friends. Joseph was patient with Eli, you had to be. You had to have thick skin around that kid because he was very on and off with most people. And yeah, he had issues and sometimes Joey didn't want to put up with them because he had enough on his plate. But Joey was like Eli's big brother, there was a lot of trust between them. He had known the guy since he was a little young dude, maybe that was why they were such good friends. Either way, Elias Walker was part of the Murdoch's extended family. Jamie loved him simply because Elias often swore in front of them and Joey would tell him off, and Eli would swear again while telling Joey to shut up. Jamie thought it was hilarious, especially when Joey would put money in the 'swear jar' on Eli's behalf.

The girls were quiet while the boys were making car noises running up and down the hallway with their remote control cars. And the young Great Dane named Majesty was following Joey around his kitchen as he prepared her some food. She was getting so big now and she was only over four months old! "Alright, alright." a deep, velvety voice said, as she began to jump up at him eagerly, wanting the food already. As soon as he placed the metal bowl down, her head was in it. In less than a minute, that bowl would be empty. It was nearing 3:45pm on a Saturday afternoon, and Eli would be here any minute. So Joey opened his fridge and took out two cans of beer, in preparation for his friends arrival.

ah, los angeles, california best known as the city of angels to most people. dark angels was the term elias used most when he talked about this place. with all of its glamour and high life that it showed to others, the ones who lived here knew better than to think that way. it had it's dark areas and secrets but what place didn't. this was a place where elias tended to get in trouble at and it was usually during it's glorious night life. when it came to parties, elias was usually there and having a blast. to him it didn't need to be the weekend to go out, going out was going out no matter what day it was. all you had to do was go out with him, he'd take you to a bar or club and show you how to have fun and how he lived his life. but lately he had been doing pretty well, he hadn't gone out much and it was because of a promise he made to his cousin jules. family jules. oh how he loved to tease the hell out of that girl. she was just so easy to pick on and she was one of the few people who could handle his WILD side and not hold it against him. it was nice to have people understand you, especially if they are your family but that was a problem in itself.

they were family, so they were suppose to understand you. in some cases that wasn't true at all but in the perfect world - they HAD to. that's why elias was glad he had joey and the rest of the murdoch family. the guy wasn't kidding when he said he knew joey his whole life, he met the guy was a youngster. elias was never good at remembering what age, so he always said before he hit puberty. joey was jacob's older and coolest brother in elias's eyes. the only guy elias had to look up to was the guy his mom brought home and they never lasted. his mother was a free spirit and was sort of..well, a hoe. no, not really but in a way...she was. oh who was he kidding, his mother was the type of girl who you didn't want your son to bring home. it was a confusing situation to understand and elias always tried his best to understand it. when he had a serious talk with his mom, she explained to him that she got bored easily with guys and that she still had feelings for his dad. which was why they ended up back together after a few years of seperation. the boy never really cared who his mother was with, as long as she was happy and taken cared of - he was pimp.

today he was off from work and had time to sit back and relax with family and friends. but today was a day with friends, well, more like extended family. he pulled into the driveway and came to a quick stop before he turned off the engine. he was at joesph's house to spend a little qaulity time with the guy. having to raise two kids on your own was pretty tough, to tough for elias to imagine. luckily elias loved and was good with kids - shocking yes, he loved them. ATTENTION, elias walker LOVES kids. of course it was in a non-pedophile kind of way, that was just fucking gross. joey's kids were awesome, especially jamie - that kid reminded elias of himself. minus all the fuck-ups, swearing, tattoos and piercings but other than that - certain things were similar. not to mention the kids hair was badass. stepping out of the car, he shut the door with his foot and began walking towards the entrance. with three loud bangs that sounded like the police were coming for a visit, his fist pounded the door as he spoke. "open the fucking door, it's cold as fuck" he yelled as he continued to pound on the piece of wood. eli was sure he was a huge problem to other people, with his lack of respect for someone else's rules and things but quite frankly...he didn't give a fuck.

The downstairs of the house didn't really have any doors, just archways linking each room. And he was glad, because if there had been a door he would have gone face first into it, stumbling over his son's sneakers. He grumbled, muttering cuss words under his breath while congratulating himself on staying upright! "Jamison?" he shouted and Jamie skidded down the hallway and into the dining room-kitchen combo. "Put your shoes away, I'm sick of you leaving them around." he said, and Jamie pulled a face, complaining that he was winning his race. "Hey, if I trip on your shoes one more time, I'm throwing them away. Just go and toss them in your room. Go!" he said, passing him the shoes and watching the kid speed away. God, he didn't half wish he had that energy. Jamie was basically a ball of energy, sometimes it was hard to keep going when Joey was exhausted and Jamie was still raring to go! Luckily, Annabelle seemed to sense when he needed help and she'd go and keep Jamison occupied.

Joey heard the car pull up outside and instantly knew who it was. And he arrived in typical Eli fashion. Potty-mouthed and brash! Joey chuckled away silently to himself, knowing that his kids were used to Eli's ways. Even Joey swore in front of his kids, hence the swear jar. It was Eleanor's idea because she wanted Joey to think before he spoke but sometimes he couldn't help it. So he would have to give his kids money, for offending their little ears! As soon as the sound of a fist banged on their front door, all hell broke loose. Majesty starting barking, he could hear Anna running to the window of her bedroom to look out and see Elias's car and as she was bounding down the stairs, Jamie had abandoned his remote control car and had zoomed to the door. "Jamie!" Joey called, so he knew to wait so Joey could open the door and keep Majesty from escaping like she had done two days ago. She didn't run off, she would just leap around their garden and that of the neighbouring houses and he really didn't need to be running around after her today, especially if it started raining again.

So Jamie waited as patiently as he could while Joey and Anna held back the eager Great Dane and he opened the door. "Watch your mouth." Joey grinned, clearly not being serious as he scolded Elias for his double use of the word fuck. A little head peaked out from behind Joey, Jamie was holding onto his father's jeans as he grinned up and looked at the broad man at the door with that dimple-ridden smile of his. "Hi uncle Eli!" he said, delighted. And as soon as Joey moved, the kid rushed forwards and attached himself to Elias in a cling/hug. "Come on in, dude." said Joey as he opened the door further and Annabelle giggled, because trying to keep a hold of an excitable Majesty was a tough job. Elias had been right, it was cold out there, for LA standards. He much preferred autumn, that was his favourite season of all because it was not too hot but the winter chill hadn't set in, there was no rain and it was the time of Halloween, which was pretty much his favourite holiday! "You good?" Joey asked, letting go of Majesty who circled the group.

By this time, Jamie had eventually let go of his adopted-uncle so the man could actually walk into the house. But he stood beaming, his pal lingering around also having been told all about Eli. And he probably scared the kid, it was easy to be intimidated by people who looked like Joey and Eli, when you were five years old. "Kids have got some friends over." Joey explained, referring to the eight year old standing on the foot of the stairs waiting for Anna to come back so they could carry on watching their movie. "Hey Elias." Annabelle said in her soft voice, staring up at the two fellas with her big brown eyes. She reminded Joey so much of her mother. Both their kids got their bothers dark eyes and olive skin. Jamie's skin was darker than Anna's though. And they had their dad's sticky-out ears and pixyish features. Thankfully they got mommy's nose. Sometimes it was a little heartbreaking to see your dead wife in your daughter's face but mostly, it was incredibly comforting.

after he was convinced he was heard, he stopped trying to put a hole through the door and placed his hands into his pocket. elias always enjoyed coming over here to see the kids because they brought him out of his slump if he were ever in one. most kids out there were just trying to get an ass kicking by some bully because they were just awful. you know this kids with the snobbish attitudes and the talking back - just a huge wake up call to him. he didn't want kids of his own! elias knew he was a handful and he knew he put his mom through a bunch of shit and he didn't want to have to deal with it. as soon as the door opened, a huge grin came across poppa eli's face. his trademark dimples and flashing green eyes along with his raspy laugh as he listened to his friends' comment. it then quickly stopped and a blank expression came over his face. "my mouth is perfectly fine, shut the fuck up." he spoke before a small smile returned to his face. "besides, anna says it all the time" he remarked. of course he was lying, he couldn't even fathom the thought of her swearing -at least as much as he did. he was about to say something else smart when he felt himself make contact with jamie. "j-mann, how goes it." he replied as he returned the hug.

when he walked into the house he looked down at majesty and gave her a nice rub down before glancing at the other kid who happened to be staring at elias. just as he was about to ask, joey had answered the question for him. the kid looked scared as elias straightened to his natural height and glared down at the kid. it wasn't a mean glare - just a glare he did when elias tried to read people. old habit. "sup faggot" he retorted towards the five year old before he looked over at joey blankly. his green eyes then shifted towards the girl standing on the stairs, also looking towards their direction but she wasn't looking at him. he didn't even bother to give the girl a smart comment, he just nodded before he turned his attention to anna. "hey elias?" he questioned with a quirked eyebrow. "that's all i get, i get this massive welcome from jamie and majesty and all you say is hey" he shook his head and sighed. he then glanced over at jamie and scooped him up into his massive arms. in a swift movement he placed the kid on his shoulder and nudged him in the sides as he stared at joey. "hey honey, how was your day" it was actually the first actual greeting he had gave joey since he entered the house.

"you didn't tell me we were having a party, i would've brought the booze" he exclaimed as he made references towards the kids. elias was sure he was not the person a parent wanted their kids around and that's what made him act out even more. to know that his profanity and sometimes vulgar gestures gave the "strict" parents a heart attack, made him happy on the inside. "so you arent gonna believe this, last night i was this close to going back to jail for beating the shit out of this kid at the bar last night..." he exclaimed, making sure the annoyance in his voice was heard. "you here that jamie, i almost got in trouble again because those self-centered fuckfaced shitholes don't know how to keep a girl" hopefully joey had money to put in the swear jar because elias was for sure gonna drop bombs everywhere. when joey had told him about the swear jar, elias thought it was the dumbest thing ever and he gladly told joey that. which was why he never paid for any curse word and wasn't surprised when joey put money in for him. "you might as well put a thousand dollars in the swear jar" he added nonchalantly. he let jamie down with ease in front of him, so he could rest his hands on the kids shoulders.

Oh Jesus. Here we go, with his nonchalant use of swear words and insults. Joseph mentally face-palmed. Sometimes you had to wonder if he had no filter at all. He didn't even feel that surprised or shocked to hear Elias greet a five year old with “sup faggot?” but he glared at him with annoyance anyway. It was no use telling Eli not to say things like this, it was almost like the guy couldn't help it. He could, but he just didn't want to. And you had to accept this about him in order to get along with him. He just hoped that Brian and Sophie didn't go home to their parents and repeat these words, otherwise Joey would be receiving phone calls from irate parents complaining! So while Elias interacted with Jamie and Anna (who were scarily used to Elias' behaviour), Joey explained that Eli wasn't careful with his words and asked if they understood that what he was saying were adult words, not to be used by children. And they did, but he still apologised to them.

And reassured Brian that Eli meant nothing by the faggot comment, and then realised that the kid didn't even know what it meant! Meanwhile, the eldest of the two siblings stepped towards Eli as he picked up her little brother and she giggled, taking his hand which seemed gigantic in her little one and she kept hold of it, always mesmerised by his tattoos. Just like she was with Joey's. Ever since she was a toddler, she had trailed her fingers along the outlines, and when Joey had some incomplete tattoos, she'd complete them with a coloured pen. Even if she didn't understand the pictures and their meanings, she just loved looking at them and admiring the colours. Sometimes she would even make up stories about them. Joey laughed as Eli suggested this could have been a party and he shook his head. "Oh don't worry, I got you covered man." he cooed, gesturing to the kitchen were the two cans of beer he took from the fridge about a minute before Eli arrived sat waiting for them.

Being called honey didn't phase him at all. In fact, he replied as if Eli had called him Joey! "Lazy, yet tiring." he said, which just sounded mysterious. But it was true, he felt like he hadn't really done anything and yet at the same time, he felt like he had been on the go. Ah, some of the tales told by this guy were just hilarious. Joey hadn't been so carefree since his early college days, during that first year when he had never felt so hung over. "You know, one day you are going to end up in jail doing this shi-" he caught himself, a cheeky side glance to Anna as she pointed at him. "...stuff." he said, correcting the sentence before he said something bad. "And I'll be the one coming to bail you at three in the morning." he said and chuckled at the thought. It wouldn't surprise him to get a call from a shifty and vague Eli just asking him to come down the police station to collect him. And he'd gladly do it too. He was protective of Eli, but it was rarely obvious unless Eli came to him for help.

Joey raised his eyebrows at the same time he raised his arms to take his son from Elias so he could get the kids to go play. "I'm going to come up with a new rule, so when you are around the rules of the swear jar don't apply. Otherwise I'll be broke. I'm sure they like it when you come because they're rich by the end of the day." he laughed as Anna protested. Though she did love catching Joey out, probably because she could remember the fuss her mother would make, asking Anna to get the jar while Joey whined and said it was alright to use an adult word if you were an adult and Ellie would remind him that his mother would have his ass if she knew he was swearing openly in front of the kids. And we all know that deep down, he was a momma's boy. "Alright go on, if you want us you know were we are. Don't torment her, Jamie!" he said, watching Jamie tease Majesty. "Come on you, before you make a permanent impression on my children." he grinned, motioning to the kitchen, which is were he started to walk to. Beer, come to papa!

swearing had been something that had fascinated elias, ever since he was a kid and he heard his dad using the word "fuck". he couldn't really remember why his dad was cursing so much but he remembered hearing the f-bomb being dropped like it was world war 1. so if anyone wanted to know where elias got his vulgar behavior, look at his dad - the guy was a monster. there were times at family dinner when elias and dominic would just talk and every other word would be a curse word and of curse his mom would get pissed. if you looked at him, it would be weird if he didn't curse...i mean the guy just screamed "IM BADASS, DON'T START SHIT OR YOU WILL GET FUCKED UP". did he not? of course he did, dammit because elias james walker was a mother fucking badass. though there was that part that a lot of people didn't get to see, his friendly and sweet side that he kept hidden from the world. people never stayed around long enough for him to show it because he would push them away to keep himself protected.

he didn't like being on and off with people, hell he couldn't help it. the boy is bipolar and he can go from being happy to being really pissed off and aggressive towards anyone. but people didn't know this because that was one of the secrets that he kept from everyone. the only people who knew were his family and joey because well...joey was the big brother he never had. elias did enjoy being the big brother, it had it's perks but he wished that he had someone to look up to when his dad wasn't around. he felt anna's small hand in his and he held onto it tightly but gently, he didn't want to break her fingers infront of her dad and killed by him. he was too young and way too gorgeous to die. when he heard joey's set of lyrics, he glanced up at the guy and gave a small smile. "thanks a lot dad, i knew you loved me" he replied. "i should start just randomly showing up here from now on, you got everything i need right here" he added. hearing jamie's yell of approval made elias smile even more, of course jamie would enjoy that and elias would too.

elias couldn't imagine living here, well he could but it was just be too impossible. he didn't think of himself as a bad person, but he definitely wasn't that good of a person as jamie and anna thought he was. sure he was fun and a goofball but he came with a lot of heavy shit. a bad temper or more like an anger issue, certain days he just didn't want to be bothered and could snap at anyone in the blink of an eye. the last thing he wanted to do was hurt them in anyway because he could honestly say that he couldn't live with that guilt. "understandable i guess..i'll cute you some slack" he replied jokingly. of course he'd be tired, single parent..HELLO! it was true, anytime or day now, elias could be calling joey to come and bail him out because he sure as shit wouldn't call his parents. that was a sure way to get his ass chewed out and smacked across the head for being so damn stupid. as he watched joey catch himself from cursing, elias couldn't do anything but laugh. "whipped, just whipped" but in secret coding, elias meant "respect, you have total respect for the kids". something he lacked and kind of liked that he lacked.

it would probably be a good idea for joey to do that because there were times elias just cursed on purpose just so he could watch joey fish out cash and put it in the jar. "no no no, cant do that because that is straight up cheating" he replied as he felt the weight of jaime leave him. "and that's bullshit, don't cheat the kids from their money uncle sam" he stated as he shoved his hands into his pockets. he looked down at majesty who stared up at him before her attention was stolen by jamie. as soon as joey said not to torment her, elias shook his head in agreement. if elias ever learned anything, he learned not to torment or hurt an animal and he never did. at least not on purpose. there was that one time when he was backing out of the driveway and he didn't see his mom's dog and...yeah, that was a horrible day. "if i hadn't tormented them now then i think you're good." he retorted as he followed behind joey. "though jamie could be a late bloomer in the badass department...i was" he added with a shrug.

He probably wouldn't complain too much if Elias did start showing up randomly. Just as long as he wasn't here every day! His days had gotten really scheduled lately, simply because it was the only way he could function properly and stay on track. Get up, get the kids ready and off to school, go to work, come home, maybe go grocery shopping, cook dinner, entertain children and do a bit of work, put kids to bed and have an hour or two to himself before going to bed too, ready to start all over again the next day. Saturdays were supposed to be a day off but for Joey it was just as hectic. He had to do housework and chores, do the shopping to stock up the cupboards, do some more work ready for Monday all while trying to keep his kids from being bored! He had this renewed sense of respect for single mothers or wives of members of the armed forces who's husbands were overseas a lot leaving these women to care for the children by themselves, sometimes while living in a foreign country.

Lately, Joey had felt this strange feeling of loneliness, despite being around people for most, if not all of the day. Maybe it wasn't loneliness, but he was just missing Eleanor. It had been almost a year now, it would be a year this March. The year itself had gone by so fast, but his grief seemed to be moving so slowly. And a lot of the time, it just felt like it had happened yesterday because his memories of the event were so fresh and vivid still. "What would you do without me?" he asked jokingly, because he was essentially this guys big brother, being seven years older than him. Since the children weren't looking, he lifted his middle finger up at Elias as a response to that boy's cheekiness! He loved that Eli and Joey could be playful like this. They'd call each other names, insult each other. But Joey knew that Eli would be there to support Joey in any way he found that he could and the two would have each other's back. It wasn't always easy to have an emotional conversation with Eli. But in his own little way, he was very helpful. He kept Joey's spirits up, which helped him keep his head up.

How dare Elias say that Joseph was cheating! He gave a mock gasp. "Says he, the one that I have to pay for." he answered, and Annabelle erupted into a fit of giggles. Elias was such a stubborn bastard, but if he swore then Anna and Jamie would demand money in the jar! And Joey was more then happy to do it really, they were too young for an allowance but if they ever wanted children's magazines or something then they could take their own money and it would make them feel special and grown up. He'd let them stand in line and pay for it themselves. The kids ran off to play with their friends leaving the two men to walk through the wide hallway towards the kitchen-and-dining room, with the dog in tow. And Joey began to laugh. "What he lacks in badassness, he makes up for with being downright reckless." said Joey, shaking his head because his son could be so carefree sometimes. He was going to be the kid that came home with cuts and bruises and broken bones or teeth regularly, Joey could just feel it. He just tore around the place like he didn't have a care in the world. But at least he was happy, he loved playing with his friends and building stuff or climbing in things.

Anna was a lot more laidback, so at least one of them wasn't going to give him a heart attack. At least until she was in high school and boys started taking notice. And then Anna became the cause for concern! It'd be alright, Joey and Elias could be very intimidating fellows... "Here you go." Joey said, casually sliding the can of beer across the counter to Elias. He could have been a brilliant bartender. "So, another fight?" Joey asked and not in an impressed tone but not in a disappointed one either. Just as long as no one died and he wasn't arrested, it was an okay night! "If I get called in the early morning to pick you up, you are gonna be doing a lot of making up to me. You do know this, right?" Joey asked, flashing him one of his well known cheeky little smiles. "Hungry?" he asked, as he went to the fridge in search of chocolate, before the two probably headed down into the basement or something.
