quirks. cane's quirks aren't the kind of quirks most people would find 'cute' or 'spunky'. instead, his quirks could be considered offensive or annoying. his most pathetic quirk would be the way he manages to push away practically anyone who is interested in being close to him, which happens on very rare occasions. another quirk would include how he never feels awkward or uncomfortable, but loves to make other people feel that way. the most prominent of cane's quirks would be his rather embarrassing limp he's had to deal with for most of his life. overall, he isn't as adorable as his charmingly messy hair makes him out to be.

secrets. he doesn't know how much longer he can handle himself. he sometimes feels as if he isn't supposed to be alive, which scares him.
personality evaltuated.
cane has never been one to keep his opinions private, which makes it quite easy to hate the man. he is often frowned upon for letting his crude thoughts slip out of his mouth in a rough voice that has been withered down by the years of inhaling smoke and talking way too much for his own good. along with letting people know his personal views of them, he allows them to know how he would never do something as stupid or look as pathetic as they are. with his chauvinistic qualities, it is nearly impossible for him to admit he has any problems whatsoever, which was, quite obviously, a blatant, horrible lie.
most onlookers immediately spot what is the main problem with cane; loneliness, but unfortunately, they're wrong. it would be nice to say that cane acted like the inappropriate, rude, pessimistic jerk he is because he is simply lonely. that would give him a nice, healthy excuse to act like his bitter, cruel self. in reality, however, he just likes to mess with people. he likes to push peoples buttons and see how they react. for cane, nothing is better than a good ol' public breakdown. reactions fascinate the overly curious man and although he hates people, he cannot deny that they are the things that react the best.
like mentioned before, cane is an extremely curious person. he has always been interested in solving certain problems and occasionally the people involved with those problems. some take his willingness to listen as him actually caring about their issues, when, actually, all he really cares about is figuring out those issues. cane is highly intelligent which, once again, makes him willing to lend over some of his smarts to understand something. in school, he always had a knack of helping out other students (female students, mostly) with their homework. he likes to tell himself he does it to be able to flirt and converse with his peers, but really he knows it's just to have the answer.
to put it simply, cane is a manipulative asshole. he knows how to get what he wants. words come easy to him and it doesn't take much to throw on a charming grin to match. he enjoys making people do what he wants them to do. he likes turning people against each other, just for the entertainment of watching. he's cruel, sick, and inhuman, but he, unfortunately doesn't mind. the fact that adults don't like him, his peers don't like him, and even his own father doesn't like him doesn't seem to bother cane. with his troubled personality and an ego the size of god knows what, not much could, except maybe for some physical pain. other than that though, cane nicholson doesn't seem to have feelings.

history evaluated.
For the first nine years of Cane's life he was actually semi-normal. Leaving out the fact he was always somewhat antisocial, Cane might have been considered 'cute' by some of his mother's co-workers and friends. That all quickly ended however when Mommy dearest decided it would be a great idea to send her only son across the country to live with his father, Sam, for a couple days. Story short, the week ended quite abruptly with a few traumatizing events. On day one of the less-than-pleasant trip, Cane managed to get himself into Sam's oddly extensive knife set. After a few hours of Cane screaming and Sam attempting to play doctor, father of the year finally made the decision to take a quick drive to the emergency room. With forty-three brand new stitches and a permanently disfigured right arm, Cane wasn't the kind of nine year-old Sam wanted to be dealing with, which was the main cause of the next event.
Cane and Sam were very alike in many ways, one especially was their small amount of patience. Two days after the first trip to the emergency room, Sam, having been woken up by a complaining Cane at four A.M., was not having the most lovely of mornings. Because of this, he decided he would charm (another trait the father and son shared) the next door neighbor into babysitting Cane for a couple of hours as he ran some errands. The plan was going quite well until Sam was pulling out of his driveway and a sudden bump hit his car and familiar screaming hit his ears.
"Shit."
This time, forty-three stitches and a simple 'tell your mom you fell of your bike' wouldn't exactly cut it. Instead, a four hour long surgery and a permanent dislike for his father would. The accident caused lack of muscle growth in Cane's left knee, leaving the nine year-old scarred-up with a chronic limp.
Gimpy was the fitting nickname given to Cane by his by his charming peers back home. For his entire first year of being a cripple, Cane worried about what his classmates would think about his limp. Yet as the nicknames got worse and worse, so did Cane's outlook on life. As months passed, the more pessimistic he became. For four years straight all Cane did was go to school, endure the teasing, come home, complain to his mom, go to bed, and then do it all over again. Then it hit him like a pile of bricks. It was during a science class when he was thirteen. A few of the taller, more developed boys were mimicking Cane's limp and his 5'0 stature. He watched in silence (as normal) as the rest of the class laughed (as normal) and the teacher (as normal) turned a blind eye. Then, as said before, the realization smacked him quite blatantly across the face. Cane Nicholson didn't have to keep quiet.
"At least my mom doesn't hit me every night."
The words slipped out with ease and matched perfectly with the smirk that now rested upon Cane's face. The ringleader of the group, Devin Hayes, immediately froze and stood up to his normal 5'5 height. That was the first of many days that Cane would make someone cry. Cane's attitude became more and more unpleasant as the years passed.
His mother, Morgan, decided at the get-go that therapy would be best for the boy. In the end however, it was probably one of the worse decisions she could have made for Cane. During sessions, Cane was able to find new skills of tormenting people. He found out that he was very good at picking the one thing that bothered someone the most. He would continue to pick and pick at it until most of the shrinks needed some counseling themselves. The boy managed to go through nineteen different therapists in a span of three years. Then came along Jack Fletcher. Cane was sixteen and it was nearing the end of his sophomore year of high school. He constantly reeked of cigarette smoke since it distracted him from the constant faint aching in his left knee. It was in his first session with Jack that Cane was introduced to his knew found love of cigars. It was something the two immediately bonded over, but that didn't mean Cane wasn't going to get rid of the man. However, as weeks turned to months and then months turned to years, Jack managed to stick around in Cane's life.
By the time Cane was eighteen, Jack had become one of Cane's only friends. The only bad part of the relationship was that Cane was completely and utterly dependent on the man. This worried Morgan, seeing as her son was already pretty messed up in the head. Being completely dependent on someone or something was not something that Cane needed at the moment. He needed to be independent, especially since he graduated high school. That is why Morgan nearly jumped out of her scrubs when she read the letter from Princeton, stating that Cane had received a full-ride scholarship to attend. Even if Cane was able to jump, he wasn't exactly thrilled at the idea.
College was easy for him to say the least. Right after graduating, Cane landed a rather high paying job and absolutely hated it. The only reason he stuck around was because the company kept on raising his paycheck every time he thought about quitting. Finally, by the time he was twenty-six, after a rather rough night, Cane decided he hated his life way too much and decided to drop everything and start over.
This landed him in California working on movie sets. Cane is much happier. Well, as happy has he will allow himself to be at least. Overall, this was not exactly what Princeton had in mind for the boy who graduated at the top of his class.
