█ With his long legs extended in front of him and his elbows resting on his knees, Dominic eyed his dog closely. Reina was laying down in the grass with her pink tongue hanging from the side of her mouth as she casually peered around the park. Every so often her eyes might drift to a passerby or some dogs playing tag, but for the most part they all went ignored. Dominic sighed as he watched her and clicked his tongue. “Reina. Come here.” The pitbull pushed herself to her feet and loped closer to her owner before plopping down beside him and nuzzling her face into his neck. Dom rubbed her head affectionately. At fifteen months, Reina had just about reached her full size and she more or less looked like an adult. However, she still moved awkwardly at times which suggested that she was still in the final phases of puppyhood: adolescence. When Dominic first adopted Reina he hadn’t known that dogs went through a transitional phase before entering adulthood and, being a first-time dog owner, he’d had no idea what was in store. Dealing with Reina’s teen-like attitude and behavioral changes had been a nightmare for the past year. What was once a sweet and affectionate puppy had become a rambunctious little terror. She’d developed the habit of chewing objects when she was lonely, anxious or just plain bored. Reina had also become more bold and tried testing Dom’s authority more often to see what she could get away with and how far she could push his patience. This involved ignoring Dom and many of her learned commands and training. And her attention span was horrible. But that wasn’t the worst of it. Reina had become increasingly snappish and territorial. Going for walks turned from a leisure into a burden since Dom had to go through the trouble of avoiding other people and pets. Otherwise they would be met with loud barks or angry growls. For a short time Reina had even taken to lashing out at strange people and animals which in turn forced Dominic to resort to muzzling her in public. And it was always worse when another female was brought into the picture, be it human or dog. Obviously this raised a bit of a conflict with Dom and his lifestyle. At first it started small. He might bring home a girl or two from an outing and Reina, upon sensing another female in her “territory,” would sit off to the side and stare at them with cold, unwavering eyes. The behavior was unusual for her and the women were always a little uneasy, but Dominic just convinced them to ignore it and they went about their business. But then the staring turned into light, but firm, tail thwacks across the leg which some of the women mistook for playfulness. Before long Reina was braced near the door with her hackles raised, growling at the intruding females and warning them off. Naturally this meant no more house visits for Dom, and if he didn’t want his sex life to suffer he had no choice but to follow his dates to their houses. Fortunately as Reina began to near the end of her teen days, her behavior was leveling off and she was beginning to return to her old loving self. Since she’d been particularly good over these past weeks, Dom had decided to take her to the park. But now as he watched her he began to toy with the idea of giving her a little reign of freedom. He rarely let her off the leash in public anymore because there was no telling if she would decide to obey his commands or if she would opt for attacking the first dog she saw. It was such a beautiful day out that Dom wanted to give his pet the chance to romp around and have fun, but he was still a little hesitant. “Reina,” he said again. The dog looked at him and quickly rose to her feet, her tail wagging excitedly from left to right. “Sit.” She obeyed and reclined onto her haunches, tail still wagging as she panted happily. “Down, girl,” Dom said, making a flat hand and pushing down on the air. Following his cue, the pitbull laid on her belly, her tail beating more furiously. “Up,” Dom said, lifting his hand, and Reina stood. That was all he needed. Dominic pushed himself to his feet with a small grin as he raised his hand again. “Up,” he repeated. The dog responded with a loud bark. Dominic leaned over to unhook her chain leash from her collar and tucked it in his back pocket. Then he reached down into his backpack, pulled out a red Frisbee and waved it over her head. “Reina, look! What’s this?” he cooed. The young dog barked excitedly as she followed the Frisbee with her large eyes, her tail now thrashing wildly. “Go get it!” Dom flung the Frisbee and the dog went bounding after it. When she retrieved it she raced back to Dom and impatiently pushed the Frisbee into his hands so they could continue their game. The fifth time Dominic whisked the Frisbee, a gust of wind caught it and carried it further over the grass. Reina chased after it with the enthusiasm of a four-month-old puppy. She was ready to snatch it up, but stopped dead in her tracks when she saw a young woman stooping down to pick up her toy. The dog’s eyes became hard and her stance stiffened. She raised her hackles and pulled her lips back over her teeth. A low growl rumbled deep in her chest as she eyed the ‘thief’, ready to attack at the wrong move. | █ TAGS reina, brie as AALINA MARIE GREY █ WORDS nine hundred sixty four █ OUTFIT coming █ NOTES bahaha oh poor lina xD █ LYRICS dom brady , mirage |
