She’d been rehearsing for most of the week. She had one more review that she was working with her director for, just to help with publicity and trying to nail votes, plus she was performing at the Tony’s. Doing a song from the musical, she hadn’t gotten the exact word but it had been narrowed down between I Never Met a Wolf Who Didn’t Love to Howl and Let’s Be Bad. She was pretty sure Tom, the director would choose Let’s Be Bad. But she had tonight off, and already she’d spent half the day with her friends, looking for a dress for the Tony’s. And now that she had some time to herself, she was taking her two Jack Russells for a walk. As always, her younger dog, Frankie (named after Frank Sinatra. Of course.) was harassing her older dog, Toto, whom she’d gotten after her national tour with Wicked.
“Frankie! Quit biting Toto’s ear!” Danny scolded, separating the two leashes into opposite hands, trying to balance holding her coffee and Toto’s leash in the same hand. With the Tony’s in just a few days, and already having announced that she would be leaving Broadway, she was oddly nervous and incredibly excited. She was nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for Bombshell. Last year she’d been nominated for the same away for Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, but had lost it. Bombshell, had numerous nominations this year as well, including Best Play. Her mother warned her how much of a mistake it was that she would be quitting just as she hits her single spotlight. But she honestly, didn’t care. She needed a change of pace, no matter what her mother said.
As someone on rollerblades went past and Toto jerked on his leash, barking. She could only freeze as her coffee went flying and the leash was ripped out of her hand. “Shit.” she yelled, covering her mouth as she noticed that she was now partially covered with coffee and Toto was running loose. “Toto! Toto come back here right now!” Sighing she scooped Frankie into her arms. Turning around she did her best to chase down the black and tan terrier in her 6 inch heels. Of course her luck, the dog made a turn into the grass. Standing on the side walk she watched as she could barely see his legs as he chased after anything and everything. Groaning, she whined. “Toto…. You are such a pain in the ass.” Rolling her eyes, she began to walk across the grass, figuring someone would catch him or he’d tire out and she would be able to catch him when he stopped to breathe. Jack russells, they are cute, playful, cuddly, annoying and too energetic for their or anyone else’s good.
