One of Mikaela’s hobbies was event planning. She had an eye for design and a knack for décor. She was organized and detail oriented and loved the opportunities to throw an event together. Whether it was hosting a party or a girls’ night out, Mikaela was always the first to offer her planning services. What was stressful for some was fun for her. So, it only natural that when Schuyler asked Mikaela to be her maid of honor she went into extreme planner mode. What wasn’t natural was that she was planning a wedding for one of her best friends and Cooper Draven. Mikaela’s past with Cooper was a complicated one, one that Schuyler wasn’t attuned to, but if getting married was going to make them both happy, then so be it. She knew that eventually she was going to have to tell Schuyler everything that happened between her and Cooper but she wasn’t sure when she was going to do it. The purpose of their lunch date today was to get the ball rolling in the planning process. They wanted to be married before the end of the year which didn’t give them a lot of time to work with.
Mikaela sipped on a mojito as she waited for Schuyler to arrive. She contemplated whether or not she start by addressing her relationship with Cooper or just dive into the planning. She didn’t want what she had to say to be a complete buzzkill. This was supposed to be a happy time and Mikaela didn’t want to ruin it. However, she couldn’t let one of her best friends marry a man that she had a complicated past with without being upfront about it first. These weren’t the kinds of things that Mikaela wanted Schuyler to hear from someone else, though she was surprised that she hadn’t heard about them by now. If Schuyler really loved Cooper, none of the things she said would matter. She took a big gulp of her mojito the motioned for the waiter to bring her another. “A double please!” she called out, requesting extra rum. The waiter acknowledged her order and turned to put it in. Mikaela toyed with her Samsung Galaxy Note II, sending a brief text to her boyfriend to find out what he was up to. It didn’t matter where she was, what she was doing, or who she was with; Mikaela was always thinking of Dominic. Fortunately she didn’t have any projects at the moment so she didn’t have to travel and be away from him.
She was remarkably in love with him; she’d never felt anything like it before. But even still, the idea of marriage seemed incredulous. As much as she loved him and as much as she was sure that she never wanted to be with anyone else, she still couldn’t imagine herself married, being committed to anyone person forever. The white dress, the flowers, the aisle; it all seemed crazy. But Schuyler was a much different person. Love and happiness oozed from that girl’s pores. Mikaela just wondered if it was all too soon. She was so young and hadn’t known Cooper very long. Not to mention that Cooper had already been married once and had children. It was a lot for her friend to take on at such a young age. Mikaela wanted to be honest with Schuyler, but at the same time knew that her opinion didn’t matter. There was a time when people told her that Dominic was bad for business and she didn’t want to hear it. Mikaela told them all to kick rocks with no shoes on and keep it moving. No one could tell her anything as far as Dominic was concerned so who was she to say anything to Schuyler about her relationship with Cooper when she wasn’t a part of it?
