She felt as if she had forgotten where just about everything was. Moving back to Los Angeles to be closer to her family? Not so sure that was a good idea. She’d left California for a reason and her reason for returning wasn’t measuring up to that. If only she’d realized all that before she’d gotten on a plan and uprooted her entire life. Walking into the office for the fourth time, she could already tell that this wouldn’t work. Being in the office, today, was not going to happen. There were too many people walking around yelling at each other about nothing. Just as quickly as she’d stepped off the elevator, Kaesyn Bale found herself back on it. Putting in a quick phone call to her assistant, she cancelled all of the meetings she had to be in office for. Because it was only one or two of the six she had today, it wasn’t that big of a deal to her. Taking a sip of her coffee, she glanced around the elevator. None of the people looked friendly but the weird thing was, they’d all ridden the elevator up with her. What kind of people decided they needed to go up to the fifth floor but didn’t get off at the fifth floor? Yeap, today was a day that she wouldn’t surround herself with office stupidity.

Living in New York, on days like this, she’d usually end up in Central Park. That didn’t seem like much of an option being in Los Angeles at the moment. When she got to the parking lot, she lowered herself into her car and sat there. ”Where to go, where to go?” she asked herself at least six times. She could have easily gone home and relieved the babysitter, seeing as to how she wasn’t officially working today. But she didn’t. Kae hated leaving her little guy with a nanny, but he was really good for days like this when she had a shitload of work to do and just needed space. And she loved that she could work from just about anywhere as a manager. There was nothing worse than only having the choice of working in the office, being boxed up all day was no fun.

”Hey Mike, just checking in—well yeah, let me know if he gives you any problems.” A loud giggle escaped her mouth after being told that her son wasn’t as big of a problem child as he would have imagined his father to be. Truth was, his father wasn’t a problem. Far from a problem, she just wasn’t all that sure what he was. Or where he was, for that matter. That was the beauty of California; it wasn’t very likely that she would run into anyone that she didn’t particularly want to see. Hanging up the phone, she instantly knew where she would work from. It had been her favorite place to go and do close to nothing. And, it was quiet. And all she needed right now was absolute quiet. She started the car and put it into gear, exiting the parking complex and making her way to the most famous sign in Cali.

When she reached her desired destination she parked the car, turned if off and gathered her work for the day. Stopping to take it all in, it felt a little different. Then again, that was expected after not being up here for nearly two years. Grabbing a blanket, she walked on the side of the path (careful not to get run over) until she picked out a spot she was happy with. The good thing about being up here so early was the fact that the only people out there would be people that obviously had nothing to do at 7:30 in the morning or crazy dedicated runners. Laying her blanket down in one of the few shady areas that had been created by the colossal letters spelling out Hollywood, Kaesyn took a seat and started looking over her documents.

Admittedly – and if you’d ask he would deny it – Evan had thought about Kaesyn a lot ever since the dashing blond had walked out the door and left the city entirely. It had been hurting, badly, more than he had expected it to but at the same time it had also felt extremely familiar. It had been something a part of the man had always prepared him for even against all his judgment over the girl … this idea of her being better than every girl who had ever wronged him before. And still, all this time since, there remained this innocent child within that doubted her intentions had been bad, that she must’ve had any sort of reason to leave, anything that would serve her as a redeeming factor in this whole mess that remained. He had moved on, so he liked to believe, only more adamant in his believes that he unanimously existed as some sort of amusement toy for women to take advantage of … now he was merely dressing the part. His conquests were countless and he rather pounced first than being approached later … leaving him with a frail sense of control. It wasn’t really an ideal way of living – nothing compared to what he had with Kae – but it was something to go by none the less. People were depressed and complained about their situations all the time … something the southern man refused to do. He gave into it, changed it to his liking and found a way through it, somehow, because that was who he was.

Evan had grow acquainted with his new life of fame and fortune even though he didn’t consider it an admirable way of living. He worked out a lot, if he didn’t have anything to do, it helped with the unwanted thoughts and dreams. Jogging through the hills was always amazing. The diversity of the terrain, the challenges to his balance as well as stamina, the nature … it was so serene and calm yet not too much as to make his mind go unwanted places. He would always pass by the Hollywood sign halfway, an iconic landmark above the city where he would always take a minute to rest, take in the scenery and continue on his run the second his brain fathomed any more elaborate thoughts than ‘breathe in … breathe out’. However today the young man was in for a surprise, one that would keep him breathless for longer than was good in his exhausted state. He felt his view blur before he realized to breathe again, feeling weary in his posture but not only because of the lack of oxygen. A familiar blonde figure, like an angel had crashed into the ‘W’ and was now resting to gain enough strength for the long road home. But he knew better, this beauty was very much from the real world, much more than he’d wished for right now. He thought about simply turning around and making a run for it but that was against every prideful notion be possessed … besides, her probing eyes had caught him already.

So the former UCLA student did the only prideful thing to do an continued his way spitefully along the letters to the point where he would pass the pretty blond. For a moment he was wondering if she had intentionally crossed his path this way, knowing he’d be most vulnerable when his physical strength was stripped away by miles of fast pacing. Even if he wanted to put up a fight he’d not be able to … after all she was the only woman he had ever really loved and he knew in his heart, no matter what if she asked him to forgive her against any better knowledge he’d just nod like a stupid baboon and do so. He sighed, audible although figured to have been far enough away for her to not hear it. ”Not quite the entrance I pictured for you … where’s the smoke and the winged monkeys?” he said sarcastically, not a single emotion showing on his face yet his eyes squinted at the bright son above them. He stood a mere few feet away, gazing down at her beautiful features, feeling pained that it wasn’t like it used to be. But on the other hand his pride demanded that he would stay cold and treat this encounter like a bug on the side of the road … though everyone knew he couldn’t do that – including Kaesyn.

All this paperwork made her feel like a teacher. Though she wasn’t grading papers, she was proofing contracts and filtering through scripts for the second time. Though this stuff was hard to do with the client breathing down her back, she would admit that it was a bit sadder that it was harder for her to do this kind of thing behind a desk. She wasn’t cut out for offices, never had been. Working in college, she’d been a lifeguard. Even when she was forced to stay inside, she did her best to stay away from office space. As a lifeguard, all she had to do was sit in a chair and make sure people didn’t drown. Of course, being Kaesyn, she did more than that. Aside from helping with training and, eventually, having to sculpt the schedules, she’d use the time she’d been plagued with to swim. Exercise was more her thing and that was why chose to cling to dance. It was a great way to exercise and she could do it just about anywhere (or anytime) she wanted to. To be honest, she wanted to leave right now and go to dance. Although, she was sure there were no actual classes going on this early. That had never actually stopped her before, and she usually got her best ideas when she turning her thinking sessions in dancing ones. Shaking her head, Kaesyn ultimately decided against it. She’d already chosen to come to the sign and, if that didn’t push her to work more effectively, she would probably return to the office if all else failed.

Being up here in itself was distracting. This was one of the last places she’d been before she took off, it’d been one of the first places she’d come with Evan after she’d claimed him as a friend, and it was the first place she’d come to when she found she was pregnant. Come to think of it, this was the place she ended up whenever she needed to get something done or when she needed to think something out. All of her plans—all the good ones—had been formulated on this very terrain. Looking down at the script in front of her, she started to read. Every now and then she would let a small giggle which meant that it would probably be good enough to make it to the final stage of the filtering of scripts. Making only a few notes in the margins, she was sure this one would be good enough for her to bring this back to one of her favorite clients. It would probably trake much more fight to get him to actually focus on a movie rather than partying like crazy, but that was one of the many things Kae liked about this job. With all the anger she had bottled up, most of it held towards Evan and herself, she looked forward to a heated verbal argument every now and then. It wouldn’t be a good business to be in if it wasn’t that way. She was even more grateful that she had clients that didn’t mind giving her a bit of a challenge. Taking a break from reading, she looked up just in time to see a familiar figure run by.

Luckily for her, he hadn’t changed much. Though, that was also a bad thing. Evan James Buckley wasn’t a man of change and that meant that he would still be exactly what Kaesyn wanted. At the same time, it would also mean that her reason for leaving would be the same reason to drive him away even if they resided in the same city. Lifting her head a bit more, she got a good look at his face as he walked over. She’d been right, he hadn’t changed a bit. If anything, he’d gotten better looking though there was a chance those thoughts weren’t being derived from her brain. The likes of a movie star had definitely done him well, she decided. ”Winged monkeys? You know tigers make more of an impact. Didn’t think I’d need them today though, hoped I wouldn’t have to put them into motion until you pushed passed me on a red carpet.” she replied with the same amount, if not more, sarcasm. Moments like this were the reason they had been so good together. She didn’t take his shit, and he was partly responsible for the impenetrable backbone that she carried around so proudly. Kaesyn took the little time he would need to process her comment to look him over again. He looked better than she remembered, if that were even possible. Instantly, she remembered who she was admiring. If she wasn’t with Evan, so could only assume every other woman with the guts to make a pass at him had been. She didn’t like that idea. Not. At. All. ”You look good.”

Evan had grown up in a humble family on a farm in South Carolina and he had never been one to ask for much. Coming from almost nothing he had always struggled for everything and earned himself a reputation of being a man of action, rather than one of thought. Where a normal boy would ultimately grow more mature and reasonable he had only become more cynical and reckless to a level where he wouldn't care about much. He had always been making his own luck and never regretted any decision which was why he usually tried to avoid situation where a decision was made for him. That was what had hit him most about Kae leaving, not his hurt pride, not the sadness of being alone … no, just the painful ping of being put into a situation where he had to suffer through something he had not himself instigated. Of course you could always argument that the blonde's reasons for leaving were just as well the young man's doing however that was not a train of thought as short as the ones the 24-year old usually dealt with. He normally only saw the direct ramifications to his actions which made it all the easier to be as reckless as him … if you blocked out the bigger results of your doing. In a way you could probably call the man slightly naïve in these regards even though he'd beat you up mercilessly for using that word in connection with his name.

As a matter of fact he had thought Kae to be naïve herself, most of the time, if only for putting up with him for as long as she had. In a way he had seen the end as some sort of salvation on her part which ultimately made the sentiment more bearable. The blonde girl was also a woman who built her own life so she must've figured by leaving him she'd improve her situation - or his. But through it all Evan neglected to believe it had been an act of kindness rather than spite. Hearing her voice seep into his ears numbing the heartbeat that was ringing through his blood flushed lobes from all the exhaustion reciprocated an all too familiar longing that needed to be pushed back where it came from. He shook his head incredulously, if only to wipe those thoughts from his mind but just as much as an undeniable sign for her that he couldn't believe how curt she was being. Yet again he had sort of set the mood by speaking first in an equally cold manner that was merely intended to hide the fact he couldn't help but feel blessed to see her again after what seemed like forever and a lifetime. He wasn't going to point out what a fuzz tigers on a red-carpet would cause but had the image clear before his eyes. It was a humorous notion he had to hand it to her but not enough to make his face fall into a handsome lop-sided smirk.

But if it wasn't her first comment that threw him off track it was surely the one that followed. How dare she tell him he looked good?! He was a mess, he drunk, he stoned himself out more than Amy Winehouse in her best days and ended up looking 5 years his senior, minimum! Was she being sarcastic? Was that what he had earned from being her one and only in a time where they had both needed someone to be there for one another? For years of trying to break from his habitually crazy wiles and numbing down the asshole genes that were undoubtedly bigoted to him by his father? Letting out an incredulous grunt of fake amusement Evan rubbed the back of his head gazing around the place in a swift motion fixing his blue orbs narrowed on the skyline ahead for a second. ”Well, that only means I am THAT good of an actor.” he told her looking back sternly, shaking his head slightly, his brows creased. He could've told her how astonishing she was looking herself, like a mirage to his sweat-drenched eyes and blurry vision. But he was going to refrain. There had been a time where the blond would jump at any crevice in his tough exterior to lick at least the faintest bit of blood as a means of being closer to him but he wouldn't give her that kind of satisfaction just yet.

”I hope you haven't been sitting her for too long … maybe running into me on a red carpet where I am forced to be civil would've been the better idea.” he told her matter of factly … only to not sound as cold as he felt right that moment. ”After all you knew where to find me … not something I can say about you.” he shrugged nodding at her slender physique with just the right amount of curves to send a normal man weeping at her feet for forgiveness.

This was going exactly the way she planned it would, which both hurt and calmed her. Kaesyn knew that Evan was cold. She’d know that from the moment that she’d met him. Looking back to that day on the field, she could never have imagined that the football oriented Evan Buckley could be capable of love. More surprising was the fact that he was capable of admitting that he could love. That’s the Evan she’d gone through so much with. And that was the Evan, despite all his bullshit, that it had killed her to leave. She hadn’t stopped thinking about him the entire time she’d be gone, not completely. The way things were going, she’d probably never be able to completely rid herself of him. Her son would obviously always be a reminder of him, and that fact that his middle name was Evan would only make that part of her heart that much more. But it was better that way. Him being a father, actively being a father with the mindset that he was in right now wouldn’t be good anyway. He didn’t even like children. There was no way that he could have taken care of one two years ago. At least, that was what Kaesyn had to keep telling herself to justify her choice. She thought to shake her head at herself for, even after two years of being away from him; she still couldn’t tell herself that she had done the right thing.

No. She knew that she had not done the right thing, but she’d done the best thing she could do. Leaving hadn’t done much damage. Sure, it had made Evan bitter and it had probably given him the one excuse he needed to put her in a category with all the other girls that had walked out of him. But, as far as Kaesyn was concerned, things like this were better than they would have been if she had actually stayed. If she’d stayed, she wouldn’t have been able to hide the pregnancy from him. Being that she was dealing with Evan, he probably would have noticed that something was off before she’d even started showing. As she’d played the scenarios in her head many times, she knew that staying and not telling him would be back. Because she’d chosen to hid it, she assumed, Evan would feel as if she had a much larger reason for keeping it from him. Quite frankly, she didn’t enjoy being accused of being unfaithful and for Evan to do it would mean a definite end to contact with him. However, telling him would be just as bad. Telling him would consist of her hinting at wanting kids in the future only to have him elaborate on how terrible children are. Neither choice was desirable, so she’d left. As much as she wanted to tell him, as much as she wanted to fix things, she knew she couldn’t. At least, she couldn’t do it here. Hell, she wasn’t all that sure that she could do it at all.

Seeing his response, her eyes lit up just a bit. If he were still the same Evan that she’d known, and eventually come to love, that was a good sign for her. Not that she was conceited, but she could tell that what she’d said had struck a nerve. Striking nerves was always good, especially in terms of the man with piercing blue spheres standing in as eyes. In order to get a reaction like that he had to care. Inside, she smiled. Caring just a little bit was good enough for her, it meant she had something to work with. She shook her head as a means to refute his statement without having to open up that argument for she could feel a much heavier statement would follow the one of his acting. And she had been right. Part of her wanted to yell at him for being the way that he was. It wasn’t like her number had changed. And it wasn’t like she had never mentioned anything about going to New York. Although she had never actually mentioned that she was leaving, he had known that she was thinking about it. And, if he’d really wanted to know where she was, all he would have had to do was call. But she couldn’t say that…as she’d never actually reached out and called herself. Maybe she wasn’t ready to deal with Evan James Buckley. He was a vessel of built up anger. And she herself? She couldn’t stay angry at him and she couldn’t be mad at him for this, anyway. This was her fault, not his. ”I think I’d rather not have you snub me in public, the media would have a field day.” Kaesyn retorted.

She glanced down, smiling to herself quickly as she looked up. ”Finding you definitely wasn’t an issue.” Evan was a man of routine, she knew that. So she could tell how her being here didn’t look all that random. ”Ev…” she started, looking for words to explain herself. If anyone deserved an explanation, it was him; and, if anyone could get him to listen to one, it would have been her. ”Leaving was the best thi—best thing I could do for us.”

Evan could very well remember the first time he had met Kaesyn on the football field after practice or let's say, the first time he had noticed her enough to actually walk up and talk to her. Their little conversation had ended in him proving himself to her by performing a backwards somersault … and as trivial this very moment in time seems to the unobserving eye it was a sentiment very much defining of their following relationship. All the time they had been together Kae had made him work for everything but had always been there when he couldn't fathom the power to do so. What would've driven a common man crazy and exhausted was what kept the young man infatuated with the blond beauty with every day more. He had always been a man who worked for everything he had and never saw why love should've been any different. Sure, he had gotten burned more times than he wished to remember making him exceptionally critical and distrusting about the subject. But with her it was different, had always been. When he failed, she was there. When he lost and when he won all the same. She had been the reassuring factor in his life, something he could rely on all this time. Not that he had ever been the man to relinquish power and let someone else take over for a while but he had valued the possibility to do so none the less. And then she was gone …

Remembering the first day without her Evan knew he had never worked out this hard, had never pushed himself thus far and had ended with him throwing up all over the playground of a Presbyterian kindergarten outside the UCLA campus. A six year old girl had found him passed out in the sandpit and only reassured him more in his opinion on children in general. In his moment of despair nothing else could she do but call over all her friends to make fun of him … devil's spawns. Never could he have picture himself putting another sucker in this mess … not consciously anyways. If it was up to him they would push medicine further so at one point you could pick up your 10 year old offspring from an incubator at your convenience. Fully equipped with all the extras and trained like a world class German Sheppard. Now that was the kind of world he'd wanted to live in. Sadly though he wasn't and the whole situation wasn't making the loss of his one love any easier. But he wasn't a man of griefing or a man of sorrow so he called back upon his years and years of experience in being walked all over by - ironically all throughout blonde - women. He carried on as if nothing had changed, as if a period of his life simply hadn't existed. Which may have been the reason why the now 24 year old overall merely felt 18 and a half.

”Oh I wouldn't have snubbed you … come on. I would've made myself rather clear, to the point where Taylor Swift could've written a song about it … wait, I believe she already has.” Irking a brow the tall hunk gazed to the top edge of the Hollywood sign in thoughts humming a few keynotes of 'We will never ever get back together' only to be harshly interrupted by the blondes change in tone. He had thought he could play it all down with humor, impossibility and his usual assy attitude but no, she had to play the 'I still love you card'. Looking down at Kae, shock almost showing on his handsome face Ev frowned deeply, shaking his head slowly in disbelieve. HOW DARE SHE! Coming back after two years like a puppy in the rain that you would instantly forgive whatever cartload of shit it had left on the living room carpet. ”For us?” he asked laughing out ironically before his eyes focused on her sternly. ”What fucking good did it do?! Huh?” If he wasn't a man with sound morals he would've punched her right there for having the audacity to think she could make decisions for him and live to talk about it. ”I have an advice for you that might help you if you actually find a guy who can love you more than I did: When you think you're doing him a favor you don't!” Pointing his finger at her one could see the man was containing his anger hardly, he wanted to punch something and it surely wouldn't be her. ”FUCK Kae! Don't do this to me!” and he was torn, seeing her sad face wiping away whatever anger he was desperately clinging to as his sole means of defense against her. Against those intrusive wiles she used to get under his skin effortlessly, always had.

It was a Thursday. What had easily been the longest day of her life had just gotten longer. She’d been sick on and off for the last two weeks. Any normal woman would have immediately known what her body was telling her. Kaesyn? Well she’d chosen to ignore it for as long as she could. Two and a half weeks into random moments of throwing up or not being able to keep up with her exercise regiments, she decided to finally see her doctor. Why a doctor and not a home pregnancy test? Simple, she wanted time to be able to come up with a way to tell Evan. She wanted to be able to explain it to him without melting into a pool or tears; because, frankly, that wasn’t something she did around him. He wasn;t the kind of person whose shoulder she could cry one. Even though he was the love of her life, she knew just what she could and could not do with him. And on that list, right next to cry, was ‘raise a child’. When she’d gotten her results back, she hadn’t been ready. Kaesyn knew—man, did she know—but she had no idea how to tell the budding movie star. He couldn’t handle that kind of pressure anyway. Filming movies took just as much effort as raising a child. And they would have to raise him or her, because Kae wasn’t giving her child up. In making that decision, she’d made her choice. She would be raising a baby and she was more that positive that Evan Buckley wouldn’t be.

Leaving had been much messier. She’d fallen off the radar for at least two or three days. Three days that were full of packing, crying, throwing up, and stuffing her face with more food that she probably would’ve have eaten even if she were insane. And the entire time, she thought about Evan. Seeing him was out of the question as it would dissuade her from leaving. At the same time, she wanted him to have something, to know that it wasn’t his fault. None of it had been his fault and that’s what she should have been telling him right now. She should have stood up, gathered her things and told him that she’d done what she’d done because she was a bitch and had gotten a pretty good laugh out of it. Instead, she sat there actually prepared to explain herself. But how could she do that without spilling that her two-year-old and his need to be near stable family had been the only reason she’d come home? Or…the only reason that she would divulge. How could she tell him that she’d hoped, now that Tyler was two, that they could try to smooth things over? His words hit her, full of the very sarcastic yet angry tone that she’d missed. Of course, it would take work. Anything with Evan took work. But she wanted it back, she wanted him back. And she could tell that he hadn’t closed her off. Sure, it was more than selfish of her; but, with Evan usually being the selfish one, she felt that she’d more than earned her selfish moment.

She nodded her head, in the hopes of keeping herself from smiling. Even when he was trying to break her, he was desirable. And revealing the fact that he listened to Taylor Swift only made it harder for her to not want to fix this. Though she said nothing about getting back together, she wasn’t surprised that Evan had somewhat sensed it. However, she wasn’t completely sure if that was because he could hear it in her voice or if, after two years, it was still something he wanted himself. ”Yes, she has. I’m a little surprised you weren’t in the video. I could’ve saved myself the trip.” No, she hadn’t meant it; but, sometimes, she couldn’t help but revert to angry and sarcastic Kae. For two years, she’d been mad that she was raising Tyler alone. For two years, she’d been pissed that she’d up and left the one person that had loved her unconditionally. At least, she thought he’d loved her unconditionally. ”Did a lot of good, Because if I’d stayed, you’d hate me…” she said raising her left eyebrow. He didn’t have a right to question her. Not after everything she’d done in the last two years. Not after everything that she’d been doing on her own. Part of her wanted to hit him, just as he wanted to hit her. And if she felt that she could shout a him for being such an asshole after she’d been raising a son, a son that he’d helped to produce, all by herself and not be melodramatic; she would have. Now that she was actually angry, she didn’t feel as if Evan needed to know why she’d left or why she’d come back.. Instead, he could walk around hating her for the rest of his life. ”Don’t do what to you?! I’m sitting here doing my job, you’re running. You can fucking leave!” she shot back, raising her voice slightly. ”No one’s making you talk to me.” It was a risk to give him a way out. In the state that he was in now, it was extremely probable that he would listen to her and leave. Matter of factly he had been offered the gig a while back and his manager had strongly suggested he do it, against every musical sense the young man harbored. Ultimately a good friend of his had taken the fall for him, Noah, who had since also been trying to get into the show business. They had met through several gigs for Dolce & Gabbana and had forged a certain bromance that in no detail did surpass or even hold a candle to what he had with Brady of course. But it was good to have a confidant in the industry who knew what it was like to live by a food and training schedule. They hung out on the same parties and shared their knowledge and judgments on a good lay. Of course Taylor Swift was where Evan drew the line, he did not need to know how that had went for it would eternally destroy the image he had of the fair haired mouse face. It wasn't something he enjoyed much, something that he believed to be true turning into dust being replaced by an even uglier truth. He hated to be wrong about something, even more so since the young man made it a habit to boast about his preconceived opinions which frankly, made him look like a fool in the end. The same thing had happened when he had assumed Kae was different and hadn't shied away of letting everyone know she was.

And now he stood here, across from her, years after she had left him cold in his side of the bed with nothing to cuddle up to for comfort. Sure said bed had been filled with plenty of comfort ever since though every other woman on the face of this planet had been doing a piss poor job at that. Which had the man growing annoyed with them even faster than before he had met Kaesyn which every other girl had to measure up to now, it wasn't fair, the way she had sat the bar so high - untouchable. Like his mother, placing the cookie jar so high he couldn't reach … until the freckle faced blonde had been old and tall enough to simply take what he wanted and leave. However Evan didn't see his life's lesson applicable to the blonde sitting before him. She had always been something outside the ordinary, someone everything he knew didn't apply to. But that had been the temptation all along … until it blew up into his face. He couldn't help but let out an ironic snort somewhere in the vicinity of an actual laughter. ”Well, sorry to say, but I hate you anyways.” And it was a lie, what a blatant one at that. If he'd been able to hate her he wouldn't be standing there hoping with every fiber of his being she wouldn't just stand up and leave … depriving him of that little semblance of actually being 'with' her again. It would've shaken him up all over once more.

She was sitting there turning everything he ever told her around on him, using every inch he had opened up to her against him. It wasn't fair and he could not understand how Kae dared to come back after leaving him high and dry prying him open once more like a rotten oyster pulling a face at the smell. He shook his head once more and he could feel his head hurt as the heated brain nudged from side to side in its liquid bath inside of his skull. ”Your job huh? Making my life miserable once and again … well done! Mission accomplished.” he barked at her annoyed. He was growing exceedingly irritated with the woman he still loved and that sentiment was the only thing keeping him standing there … even when she practically demanded he leave. If anything she should've been able to realize that her very existence her and now was enough to make him stay even if she didn't want to. You couldn't go feeding a stray dog and then turn around annoyed because it followed you around town panting … that wasn't how it fucking worked. he was thinking about running off none the less if just to prove a point … though his willpower was not strong enough to evade her gravitational pull. ”You know I can't do that.” he said silently, in sharp contrast to his previous tonus. He was torn and for the first time in years he also looked it too. His handsome face aging into an attractive mask of lines and shadows displaying all the heartache and despair he had been bottling up ever since the day he had been proven right once more. ”Unlike you I've never been able to leave you.”

Kae didn’t have much of anything else to say. Everything that she could have chosen to say had been running through her head, filtered, and discarded. There was nothing she could say to Evan that he couldn’t fire back at her with more momentum. And, as much as she knew that was what she deserved, she knew she couldn’t take that. It would have been better for the two of them to hash it out and just be done with each other. That definitely would have been ideal but, it was far from realistic. Deep down, Kae felt that Ev would never truly be done with her and that made her sad. Weaving all of the information she’d complied on him in college into a ball, she knew how he reacted to people leaving. Better yet, she knew how he reacted to people fucking him over. It killed her to know that she had led him on his latest sexual rampage. At the same time, she wouldn’t give herself the credit for that because it wasn’t something to be proud of. Of all the intentions she’d had for them, ending added to the list of women to leave him was not one of them. No, she couldn’t do this. She couldn’t pretend that she was okay with the way they’d turned out; but she’d be damned if she said that to his face anytime soon.”Well, sorry to say, but I hate you anyways.” It didn’t so much ring in her head as it did hit her in the chest. This was the guy that was so very good at pushing women away, so very good at standing on his own. Not that any version of Evan couldn’t stand on his own. No, he could do that regardless. But this Evan—asshole Evan Buckley, he made a point of letting just about anyone know that he didn’t need anyone else. Attempting to scan his face—specifically, his eyes—her head began move up and down ever so slightly, ”Good. Hate you too.” Yes, it was childish; but there was nothing worse than her losing her cool. And there was nothing worse than her losing her cool in front of this blond haired, blue-eyed God. Instead, she tried to refocus on the script she’d been reading. What had been an interesting action/adventure type of script was now irritating and slowly evolving into a love story. She couldn’t get anything done with Evan around, not that she cared if she did. But she sure as hell couldn’t do her job if all she was doing was thinking about him. The thinking about him had to stop. As much as she would’ve loved to take the steps to make this work, she had other shit to do—other people to take care of. Besides, he was already pushing her away. Initially, she’d been worried about not being able to resist. Pissed, hurt, angry Evan was one of the many sides of his that she couldn’t resist. Then again, he was pushing her and doing her work for her. Because he was doing just that, she had the time to collect herself. He didn’t seem like he was going to leave, and that was disappointing.

Kaesyn looked up and nodded slightly, ”Yes, my job. That was the reason I left, after all.” Now they were both lying to her. Though, for Kae, it didn’t feel like much of a lie. Yes, she’d left because she’d somehow managed to get knocked up but she’d stayed gone for so long because of her career. The second the man in front of her opened his mouth, she felt she’d be irritated. Sure enough, she was. ”Making your life miserable?” He was far from miserable and she knew it. Kaesyn did her best to even her breathing, a technique she’d learned actually worked in the early stages of her Evan era, but she couldn’t. At some point of listening to him speak, her eyes glazed over and she stood up. She flashed back to their college years, to all the short notice trips with Brady and the boys. He had left her. Often. And he’d done it because it was the only way that he could deal with loving her. Even if that wasn’t the way it had gone that was how she was going to remember it, and it was easy to make Evan the bad guy in her head. Kae took two steps toward the sweaty, sexy man making sure not to get too close. That would have been stupid. ”As surprising as it is, my life does not revolve around you. I didn’t come back to make your life miserable. And if you’ve somehow tricked yourself into thinking that leaving was an easy thing for me to do, even in the slightest, then there is truly something wrong with you, Evan James Buckley.” she paused, collecting herself and lowering her voice. ”As for my so-called mission? You can easily sabotage it by finishing your run and continuing on with your life.”
