It's a genetic trait actually, one that she got from her father, and who persisted in her becoming a vet (although we all know who won the fight). If she wants something, she fights to get it even if that means trying to lift the world on her shoulders. She'll do anything (that can be possibly done) to get that role, help her friends out, or even attract that boy. She really doesn't give up even if it seems to be taking a long time to reach her goal - even though she gets frustrated so easily, she always has to assure herself that it'll all be worth it. Rory has always been STREET SMART, even when she was little. Despite growing up in Nebraska she has much more smarts than your typical Nebraskan redneck. She grew up on a ranch in the Lincoln area, surrounded by cows, horses and other farm animals. She was always interested and longing to be a part of the "outside" world (the city, more like it), and did things like read the newspaper and watch the news, documentaries and the like. It was probably why she was excited to have moved to Brooklyn in New York City with her mother during the two summers over the two years that she started to audition for the screen. It was definitely a different experience. Sure, she'd been to Omaha which was an actual city compared to Lincoln, but NYC was a huge eye opener. She usually spent time with her neighbours who were an African American family, and who taught her a lot of life lessons. Much like her cousin Bianca, she always seems to be quite the ENERGETIC girl. Well, that was a lie. She's not too hyper, but you'll always see her on her feet. She's never had to drink a can of Red Bull or drink a cup of coffee 'cause she can always hold herself up for about 20 hours straight. Not literally stand up for 20 hours straight, but she's not the type to go "I'm too lazy!" or "I'm too tired!" But yeah, she can also be a bit hyper and overtly happy. People call her an extrovert because she's super friendly and always full of energy. She has the ability to learn on the job, thus making her a QUICK LEARNER. Her mind just seems to pick up on things quite easily from skinning a squirrel to remembering directions in new places after only being there once. She's got that photographic memory, which she's quite proud of. That doesn't however mean she's academically smart because she learns quickly. She's all for the practicality of life, and not the theory - that word is an icky word for her. She tends to stay away from textbooks, often calling it a creation by villainous educated politicians in order to oppress the young people of America. Rory is known to be CREATIVE in times of stress or pressure. That being said, she can use her street smarts to get her out of trouble in the most creative ways. Think of the smooths exists Indiana Jones does by chopping a rope that'll hoist him up to the ceiling, or when some other hero randomly shoots at the light blub but it's actually a tactic to sneak up on the blind villain. Even though she's never been in those situations, she's managed to come up with something on the spot when under pressure or when she needs it - sometimes she's gotta bullshit her way out of sticky situations. This is where her ability to improvise whole scenes for movies come in. Although she hasn't been given the opportunity to do it yet, she can come up with good ways to make a scene flow. WEAKNESSES SILLY, AKA, not being able to take things seriously. It seems to be a problem of hers and it's gotten her into trouble not only at home, but on set when she's working. Although at work she's more in control of it than she is when she's around friends and family. She has the tendency to joke around a little too often than what everyone else wants, often making her a jokester, or just plain annoying. It does help sometimes though to have a laugh particularly since she largely works in drama films. But she's working to become a little more serious now. If there's one thing she has to be infamous for, it's being a huge DAREDEVIL. She has a weakness for a good dare and will 90% of the time take it on, not really taking in regard her safety. When she was young, it also included not taking care of other people's safety, which still happens sometimes, but she's grown enough to realise that being sued is not a great thing. Even though she's only 21, she's already done things like sky dive, jump off into a waterfall, kissed a cow, faked an orgasm on a date, served drinks blindfolded, and more. And she's always looking for new things to do. What can I say, she loves to take risks like that. She has an issue with being QUICK TEMPERED, particularly when people like to irritate her like her siblings. Because of her persistence with things she wants, if she loses her fights she becomes extremely moody and resentful. Like if someone gets a role that she really really wanted, she'll probably do something to embarrass the poor girl if they ever cross paths. She gets frustrated easily, which is evident by her lack of patience. However, she manages to get over it faster than she used to when she was young. And now that she doesn't have to fight for roles like she used to, other actresses can be assured that their hairs will stay in tact. Again, her persistence has lead her to become a COMPETITIVE person. She's a bit of a sore loser. Hah, who am I kidding, she is a sore loser. Well, she fights for the things she wants, and if she wants to win, she'll be overly competitive so she can win. If she doesn't, then that's how she'll become quick tempered. When she plays sports, it'll become a bit of a death wish for the other person. If it's a bet or a dare, she'll want to up the ante and make the competition more exciting. Think Monica Gellar from Friends. Although it isn't as bad as her other traits, she can be rather BLUNT when the occasion calls for it. She'll tell you that you're not doing this right, or that your butt looks extraordinarily big that day if you have to go somewhere. She’ll also point out an unspoken obvious like if your shirt is the wrong way around, she’ll be frank and tell you up straight that it is, even when people usually don’t just to be polite. Then again, if she’s finding amusement out of seeing your shirt the wrong way around, or milk froth on the top of your lip, she’ll leave you to walk around, yes, she can be a little mean. SKILLS Rory acts. Well there's more, she's also pretty talented at improvisation and would love to try it out in a comedy film one day. She knows how to speak a tiny bit of Japanese and French - something she got from studying languages in high school. She can put on a great British and Irish accent, and accidentally puts on a New Zealand accent when trying to impersonate Steve Irwin. In terms of music, she's pretty good at self-teaching as she learnt to play guitar all alone in her room when she was 14 - she thought it'd be a wonderful thing to be able sing the horses in her family's barn to sleep. Speaking of horses, she did a bit of horseback riding back in the day when girls were obsessed with horses. She stopped however, after she got thrown off when she dared to ride without a saddle, she's pretty unsteady like that. She is pretty proud of the fact that she can dougie. Not many non-dancing white girls from Nebraska can do that. She can also skin a squirrel, which she's not too proud of, but thinks it's rather unique. Oh, and as soon as she turned 21, she took bartending courses and now makes pretty mean mojitos. Her mother and her father (her father being the brother of Bianca Tanner's own father) had always hoped that their daughter would grow up taking up some other profession - like a veterinarian. Rory however, was determined to make her dreams come true. So during her time in school, her parents enrolled her in drama classes and she took to the stage in high school productions. Her favourite moment on stage was when her Romeo in the school's production of Romeo and Juliet made the whole set collapse after she dared the boy to climb up the cardboard tower - the reward if successful was making out with him in the final act. Didn't happen at all, and Rory ended up falling off the tower in the collapse but escaped with a few cuts and bruises. At about 16, she had spent the summer in France with her cousin Bianca, when she was inspired to urge her mother to take her to New York City. Her mother did, thinking that she she should get it all out of her system. So they packed their bags and headed for NYC on their way back to America where Rory attended open casting calls with no luck. Persistent, she begged her mother to go back to NYC the next summer and they returned where she auditioned day in and day out, determined to get an agent. Fast forward five years, and Rory Tanner has an Academy Award nomination up her sleeve. Although having worked with people such as Charlize Theron, Willa Holland, Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster, it was part of Ree in the critically acclaimed Winter's Bone, which completely launched her into a place she's still trying get her head around. Although she credits her determination and persistence in getting what she wants, she's also a highly talented actress. Thanks to this Oscar nomination, she's managed to snag the role of Katniss Everdeen in the anticipated The Hunger Games. |
