Although it was a Monday night, Keani didn't feel like she had the blues. Most Mondays were rough when a person was working overtime, but Keani enjoyed being busy, so filming and writing a blog for the New York Times was far from burdening the twenty-three-year-old. Instead of heading back to the hotel room, though, she avoided the tall Fairfield building and made her way to a local diner. She was on her own for the night, ready to spend a bit of time away from the hustle and bustle of working on the set of a high-budget film. While filming was great for most extroverted people, Keani found herself mildly irritated when she began to crave a slower environment. She was more introverted than most actors. As a writer, she preferred to wind down with a cup of tea and a book. With all of the stress that had been compounded on her lately, she felt like she deserved to go out to a diner and blend in with the rest of the people there. No one was asking anything of her as she opened the door to the place.
The black and white tiles on the floor barely made a sound as she walked in her nude flats. She approached the podium where a hostess stood. The teenager looked up and smiled at her. "How can I help you tonight, ma'am?" she asked. Keani grinned back. "I'm just going to take a seat at the bar. Is that okay?" she asked politely, already charming the young woman in front of her. Go right ahead, ma'am!" the girl replied cheerfully, pointing at the menu that was already laid out. Keani nodded her thanks and took a seat at the bar. It wasn't that she didn't want a booth, but she did want to sit somewhere more open. Booths were lonely without others. Keani wasn't lonely, just alone. She liked being by herself. Blake had been attached to her hip for quite some time. As much as she liked his company, too much of Blake made her feel like the two were beginning to hate each other.
"You need something, ma'am?" a smoker's voice asked her. Keani looked up to see an older woman who looked like a Waffle House worker she once met in Georgia. "I'll have a chocolate chip waffle with some sweet tea," she replied, glancing at the menu. "I think that would be it," she said, a bit uncertain. Keani was usually a huge health freak, but she needed comfort food, and where else would be a better place for that? The server disappeared into the back, leaving Keani with the menu that sat beside numerous ones on the bar. Keani spun a bit in the squeaky bar stood that was attached to the floor. The red seat suited the look of the diner. Photos of James Dream, Marilyn Monroe, and Elvis made Keani feel like she was in a big flashback. She folded her right leg over the other and waited patiently for her food.
