Unable to decide on relationships, he had been flying away from any female who held any marriage-worthy personality traits. Instead of searching for someone to share his life with, he wanted hook-ups or anything that would allow him to leave the next morning without a worry in his mind. It wasn't that Hayden was an intentional player; he had a small ego, one that was only inflated by his hard work in the acting industry. He simply didn't understand commitments or why he had to tie himself down at this point in his life. Besides, it wasn't fair to be with a girl when he didn't have the time to spoil her, much less the money. Recently dubbed Superman, the struggling actor was still trying to hold onto stable finances by working at a local country club. If that wasn't an odd situation, he didn't know what was. To celebrate his career and successes, he and a few friends from work decided to head to the bar. Kellan, one of Hayden's closer friends from the place, persuaded all of them to go to the local club in honor of Hayden's status as The Justice League's American hero. As modest as he was, Hayden was persuaded by Kellan to tag along. Hayden used to like the club scene and all, but after going through some serious realizations in high high school years, getting hammered wasn't his plan. He would dance to crazy music, talk to a few girls, and maybe take one home with him. He would even have a drink or two. He just couldn't convince himself to get carried away with a night that was meant to make him happy -- and Kellan, of course, who wanted to meet a pretty girl himself to take home. Among the other guys, Kellan seemed like the most piggish of them all. Two of the girls who came with them were aware of this as well. "Calm down," one of them giggled as the group entered the building. "Kellan's just happy to be out of that godforsaken country club," Hayden joked before following the leader to a booth. Kellan ordered them drinks and was already attempting to get drunk. Hayden was no longer the adrenaline junkie he had been at one point of his life, so he took it easy with the drinks. Instead of allowing Kellan to waste his night with telling anecdotes, he grabbed one of the ladies, Katie, to dance with him. She fell into the crowd with an easy rhythm moving through her body, and Hayden found himself only attempting to keep up with the smooth curves he could see. After a few minutes of mindless dancing, he allowed himself to glance at the bar. He spotted a familiar face: Allie Miller. "I'll be back," he told Katie with a tap on the shoulder. He moved seamlessly through the crowd to reach his destination. Allie, his ex, a New Yorker, was someone he had met during medical school. He remembered seeing her in New York and dating her -- long-distance -- while he went to school in Maryland. The two had grown close by meeting through mutual friends while he was in the city. After breaking up because of Hayden's emotional unavailability, seeing her face was... almost refreshing. He felt like it might be a bad idea to approach her, but he couldn't help himself. "Allie! Hey!" he grinned, going in for a hug. words: 582 tagged: danni as allie! notes: Haihai! |
