They were comfortable with each other, and little did Jane know that he was ready to take the next big step. Jane was perfectly content with where their couplehood was. They lived apart, but they spent the night with each other often. He was a nice man, working from a marketing firm in Los Angeles. They met at a sushi restaurant, and their romance easily rose as they learned bits and pieces about each other. Jane loved him, and he loved her. Her job made it difficult for them to be with each other like most couples were, but Skype definitely helped them overcome the obstacle of distance. She was never gone for more than a couple weeks. All of the movies she participated in were a majority of local films. Her first major out-of-state, out-of-country, experience began the day after. Jane was more excited than anxious, and Logan was proud of his girlfriend, just as any good boyfriend would be. He offered to do something special for her on the last night she was in town. Jane knew she needed to finalize her packing, but his proposition was one she couldn't refuse. Logan truly went all out. A limousine picked her up from her apartment at six-thirty. Jane made sure she was ready with plenty time to spare. The limousine, initially, was a surprise. Everything about the weekend had Jane in the dark. Her anxiety for the evening could only be imagined. What was she supposed to wear? A dress? A nice dress suit? Casual? She decided on a dress. It wasn't too formal, but it was nowhere near casual. Knowing Logan, he would have been pleased with her no matter what she wore. He was a good man. The driver of the limousine took to her brief break-down well. She was angry and overjoyed with the evening thus far. She'd get on Logan's case for spending so much, and she'd also thank him excessively for making this night special. Soon after, Jane was taken to the restaurant where Logan awaited. He was dressed in a handsome tuxedo, and a smile was firm on his face when Jane stepped out of the vehicle. They kissed as soon as they reached each other and then proceeded inside for dinner. Logan requested a private room in the same sushi restaurant they met. A private chef was hired, and wine was poured nonstop. Jane had never had anyone do something so romantic for her, and if possible, she fell in love with Logan even more. She was choked up over the venue, just because she was completely overdressed for the occasion and she was oddly okay with that. She and Logan reminisced about their year together, and when the bill came around, Jane thanked him once more for everything he prepared on her behalf. "Are you crazy?" Logan replied, "The night's still young." Holding out a hand, he added, "May I?" He led her to the limousine, and she slipped inside. "Where are we going now?" she inquired. He smiled, kissed her, and gave away nothing. Typical Logan, always keeping her on her toes. He told the driver to stop at a candy shop. This candy shop too had meaning behind it. They had dessert on their first date there, and Logan didn't hesitate to order the exact same thing from a year ago. It was just as sweet, if not more than the first time. "I hope you don't have anymore surprises," Jane said once the she swallowed the last bit of food. "It's getting late, and I have to pack for tomorrow." Logan nodded, assuring her that he was nearly through. It wouldn't take long, he said. He instructed her to stand up, and as he did so, a small box came from his pocket. He lowered to one knee, and said the words Jane never expected him to say. "Jane Eloise Lambert, will you do me the honor of marrying me?" Now, most cases ended with the girl either: a) crying and accepting, b) screaming and accepting, or c) accepting and accepting again. This instance had a plot twist. She was flattered beyond relief, and everything inside her told her to accept. She loved him. He loved her. Why not? Well, for beginners, Jane was about to fly to Toronto for three months, and she wasn't sure if she wanted to put Logan through that suspense. The crowd of people in the small shop stopped and turned to face them. Tears brimmed Jane's eyes, and Logan knew her answer. "I'm so sorry," she whispered, closing the box. He stood straight and looked her in the eyes, saying nothing. People were talking around them, and Jane's heart throbbed uncomfortably. Logan insisted he'd wait for her, but Jane refused to let him. "It's not fair," she continued to argue. "You're a good man, and you deserve more." He continued to deny the fact, right until Jane shut the door in his face, feeling as though her heart had been shattered into microscopic pieces. |
