i'm a cannibal i eat boys up, you better run - - - - - - - - - - - - - - New York was all too familiar to Bernadette or at least parts of it were. Just a little over a month ago she’d been living there struggling to make a way for herself. Now she was back in the Big Apple once again, this time to shoot scenes for a new television series she would star in that coming fall. Truthfully she didn’t miss the city one bit, but she was at least grateful for the role. If it hadn’t been for Tony she wouldn’t have been able to get either of her television roles. Well of course her talent also played a major part, but Anthony was the one who had the connections and was able to set her up with these opportunities. She’d gotten lucky with One Step Too Far in more ways then one. Not only had that been her first role, and one she’d gotten of her own accord, but her part in the movie was also how she met Tony. It was funny how so much could change in such a short time frame. But then that was the business for you. It accelerated at lightning speed and if you weren’t ready to jump on the bandwagon at a whim’s notice then you would be left in the dust. Bernadette sat in the back of a cab as she cruised through the streets of New York on her way to visit an old friend. She’d be damned if she took the subway. She wasn’t afraid or too prissy for trains. Well maybe she was a little high maintenance for them. But she was tired and she didn’t want to be bothered with the hassle of walking around or being approached by the city creeps. When the cab pulled up in front of the building, Bernadette paid the driver his fare, grabbed her handbag and got out. Her heels clicked clacked over the concrete and went inside the building she once lived in. A comforting familiarity wrapped around her as she made her way up the steps and finally stopped in front of the door that was Jed’s apartment. Bernadette raised her fist to knock, but stopped and rummaged through her black handbag instead. When she withdrew her hand again she was holding a set of keys that dangled from a keyring. When she’d left New York she hadn’t returned her copy of the keys to Jedidiah. At the time it may not have made much sense considering she was relocating to California with no plans of ever moving back to New York permanently. Bernadette hated the city. While she loved urban life, New York was far too north for her just like Canada and Minnesota had been. She needed to be somewhere warm and bright, someplace almost tropical and New York obviously didn’t meet that qualification. But Jed was someone she shared history with, even if their encounters were rather sporadic. Nevertheless she’d developed a soft spot for the man. Or maybe for his money and the things he was willing to do with it. Did it really matter either way? After sifting through the keys Bernadette picked out the right one, stuck it inside the lock and let herself inside. She didn’t give any consideration to the idea that, because this was technically no longer her home, she should’ve called first or given a heads up of some kind before barging into the man’s place. But why would she do that if she had a key? Sure he could’ve had a girl over or been in the shower, but it didn’t matter to her. They had history and it wasn’t like they hadn’t seen each other naked before. And while some might have felt her current attire was mildly inappropriate, Jedidiah should expect no less from her. So what if her purple bra showed boldly through the slits of her crop top? By day two of living with Jed she’d gotten comfortable enough to walk around the apartment in nothing but her bra and panties. “JJ I’m hooome!” she called out as she closed the door behind her. No answer. Bernadette paused and strained to listen for a response but she was only met with silence. “Oh Jeddy beaar!” she called out again. There was still no answer. Where the hell was that boy? Was he sleeping? Had he gone out somewhere? ”Jed!?” Bijou sighed heavily and went to refrigerator, tossing her purse on the counter as she passed it. She opened the door and peered inside for a moments, shifting around some of the contents before pulling out a jug of cranberry juice. She grabbed a glass from one of the cabinets and moved to the counter to fill the glass with the drink. After placing the juice back inside the fridge, she hopped up onto the counter and dug through her handbag for her phone. With her heeled feet dangling over the edge of the kitchen counter, Bernadette boredly went through her phone as she drank her juice.
