It was a bittersweet feeling, landing at LAX, knowing she was back to life. Grabbing her small carry on bag, she made her way off the stuffy plane, thankful for the fresh air and ac that hit her as she made her way out of the terminal. As she waited at the baggage claim, her phone buzzed, a text from a random friend telling her to check out the most recent article on the Dirty Laundry. Aalina wasn't one for drama most of the time, although it seemed to have a habit of following her, she didn't keep up with the ins and outs of the industry's most recent juicy gossip. Intrigued, and, needing to kill some time, she waited for her phone to load the app, swiping the touch screen a few times before the story popped up. Noticing the subject of the article right away, she felt as if her breath was being sucked out of her, leaving her lungs at a rapid pace without her being able to do anything to stop it. She couldn't bring herself to read whatever lowlife author had written, but, the image of her and Alex said it all. This was not what she needed, not after her past few weeks. She heard the beep of the conveyor belt, signaling that their bags were on the way. Aalina couldn't bring herself to wrap her mind around anything, other than the burning feeling in the pit of her stomach, consuming her. She was angry, though, she wasn't quite sure about what or with who. It took her being bumped out of the way of an middle aged woman, giving her a dirty look, to be brought back to reality. Luckily her bag was toward the end of the line, grabbing it and making quick work of making her way out of the airport. It was now online, for everyones eyes, that she and Alex were something more than just friends. It didn't matter if it were true or not, it was out there, even if her name wasn't mentioned. She felt the flame of anger grow, shoving her phone down into her purse, not even worried if Evan would show up or not. Maybe it would be smarter for her to take a cab, knowing she would blow up on Evan as soon as he opened his smart-ass mouth. Her plans of going home and taking a shower, spending some time with Evan had officially gone out the window, knowing she needed to talk to the other person involved in the situation. Aalina found herself blaming Alex, if she had just kept her mouth shut, or at least told her somewhere more private, instead of a public chat room. Or if she had stayed home and drank herself into a stupor. But no, Alex always had to make a show of everything. Her flight had been nothing but her consumed by her thoughts, questioning everything she had ever thought. Now she was faced with knowing her best friend had feelings for her, more than a typical friend. She had never been in a situation where she had to question her sexuality, or what she felt for Alex. But now, it was all hitting her at once. And publicly. Once her ride arrived, she directed them to Alex's, not even bothering to call or shoot her a text to let her know she was on her way. Aalina was already out of the vehicle before it even came to a complete stop, pulling her bags out, but not bothering to take them inside with her. "Alexandria Brooks!" Aalina called out as she let herself into the mansion her best friend called home. Just by the tone of her voice, it was clear something wasn't right. Setting her purse down on the kitchen counter, she walked further into the house, waiting for the petite Barbadian to appear. |
