He didn’t hide his grin at being caught out ”I talked about you a few times” he shrugged, trying to play it off as a no big deal when in fact he had gone on about her for most of the time he had been in New York especially after meeting her in the summer. ”Everyone knows who you are, so no pressure” he laughed a little, everyone had been curious about her and it would be no surprise to him if they ambushed her on first meeting. He didn’t worry though, he knew they had good intentions and he liked the idea of Keani getting to know his siblings and maybe becoming quick friends with them all. She had already won over his little nephew; he didn’t doubt her Beldivere charm one bit. ”What kind of test?” he asked sounding more worried than earlier, he relaxed slightly at hearing that her father was somewhat used to the idea of having him around. ”so funny is good?” he confirmed, he wanted to get into her father’s good graces and if funny was what worked then he could work with funny.
It was not pity he felt, but an overwhelming feeling of admiration for Keani. He could not imagine possibly living without his mother and cope as well as she was. She kept wonderful memories of her mother and though she was gone, to Keani she was never forgotten. She didn’t want anyone pitying her but all Elijah wanted to do was hug her. ”She sounds like an incredible woman, did you get any of her singing talent then?” he asked wanting to turn the conversation around from the more sombre tone it had adopted. The only inclination he had to music was the piano lessons he had taken whilst growing up, he was still proficient enough but a little rusty in comparison to him as a teenager.
They had been out for a few hours at least and as sure as the sun rises, Elijah’s stomach protested against the lack of food being consumed. They were done for the day but he wasn’t quite ready to say good-bye just yet, the sky was only just deciding to darken at a leisurely pace. He kept a firm hold on her hand as they continued to walk, all the while keeping watch for any food trucks nearby. His smiled gleamed as he spotted one in the distance. ”How about that rematch you wanted?” he asked, remembering the first time they had met. He led her towards the truck that was selling waffles by the dollar. He grinned at her, hoping that the smell of waffles would jog her memory of their time spent in the summer. He ordered two waffles with everything sweet the man had to offer. He paid and held out one of the polystyrene plates ”may the best man win” he challenged knowing she wouldn't possible refuse one.
