THE INDUSTRY HIERARCHY
What makes The Industry unique to other celebrity role play sites is our hierarchy posting system. A concept originally conceived by Krista and Jac from the now closed Heathington Academy, Jac has kindly allowed us to use this posting concept and adapt it for TI. Now trying to make it work for an entertainment industry site we found was a bit hard, but we've managed to come up with a ladder to the best of our ability!
**new! Please note members will be allowed to hold onto a particular rank and postpone advancement in the hierarchy for plotting purposes. You can then be promoted when you desire as long as you meet the appropriate requirements for the proceeding rank. In other words, if you want you can remain an 'unknown' for an extended period of time. Kindly PM an admin saying so, and let us know when you are ready to be promoted!

You can choose to follow a certain path when it comes to Hollywood be it acting, behind-the-scenes production or working for actors in the management field.
While crew members and the actors' entourage have their own member groups, actors climb the Hollywood hierarchy ladder. However, they start at the bottom and have to work their way to the top. There are a few exceptions though, as listed.
It is possible to work as an actor as well as a crew member. In that case you'll be placed with the actors and their member groups.

HOLLYWOOD HIERARCHY
film actors Film actors are strictly film only. Word count is higher, because of the ability to work in movies back-to-back. | tv/film actors TV/Film actors both appear on television & film. The downside is only being able to work on movies once or twice a year if you're already on a TV show. Post count is therefore lower. |
hollywood legend
Unattainable unless you’re Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, Christopher Nolan, or Dame Helen Mirren. These guys are the absolute professionals who have a string of Oscar nominations (or wins) up their sleeves and have been working in the entertainment industry way before you were born. They’ve helped shape the film (and sometimes) TV industries of today.
(Attainable only if your character is aged 50+ and with admin approval)
seasoned star
Otherwise known as the "experienced" actors. These actors have been through the "10 Year Rule" of perfecting their craft - acting, and are so great at it that everyone expects them to win the next Oscar. What makes them different from Hollywood Celebrities is the fact that they don’t have the "celebrity" label attached to them - meaning they consider themselves as "character actors". The paparazzi still follow them when given the chance, but the tabloids have high respect for them that they don't bother gossiping about their private life. Think Johnny Depp, Colin Firth, Laura Linney, Steve Carell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, or Natalie Portman.
(Only attainable if you've chosen a play by and added a real life film of theirs that should make them big names, but you haven't reached the requirements on the site. Admins have the right to change if you're not qualified enough.)
hollywood celebrity
These actors are the A-Listers we all hear about. Jennifer Aniston and Clive Owen have become part of your posse, and Steven Spielberg is inviting you to his yacht in the French Riviera. The paparazzi hound you on the streets or at events where you mingle with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. You're being asked to work in movies with Leonardo DiCaprio as a co-star and Martin Scorsese as the director. You’ve made it to the absolute top of Hollywood and your fan base is massive! Actors under 25 will be under the "Young Hollywood Celebrity" banner.

young hollywood celebrity
Your A-List status have deemed you to be in the next generation of big named actors. Every child and teenager looks up to you and wishes to be your best friend. Much like the Hollywood Celebrities, your face is constantly plastered all over gossip magazines (if not more), you're known to start the hottest trends, and you're infamous for being the hero of your everyday teenyboppers. Here you'll find your "Teams", whether they be the actors themselves or the characters they play in blockbuster movies or TV shows (Team Edward or Jacob, anyone?). Your Hollywood award scenes include stuff like the Teen or Kids Choice Awards, MTV Movie Awards or Young Hollywood Awards.
(Same as Hollywood Celebrity if you're 25 years old and under)
breakthrough star
Unlike the supporting actor, you've taken another step forward and are establishing yourself as the newest lead actor. People see you for who you are now - a good actor. Everyone is beginning to know your name and your fan base is growing every day. You're a hot commodity like the It Girl/Boy, but you've actually worked for so long now that it's hard to go back to being just a supporting actor. Big name actors are starting to know who you are too, so be sure to take advantage of that next time Graydon Carter (of Vanity Fair) invites you to the impossible-to-get-into annual Oscar After-party!

it girl/boy
An It Girl or Boy can only happen for so long. A lot more people know who you are, can put a name to your face (or vice versa), and you'll even be followed around by a few paparazzi. You've become a hot commodity in Hollywood and casting directors want you in their audition chair for the biggest blockbuster movies. Why? Because you've become a money maker baby. However, the fire can only last so long and if you don't continue working on those big movies or making those hot connections you might dwindle back into obscurity.
(This is only attainable during special occasions such as site competitions, or if you've chosen a younger play by and added a real life film of theirs that should make them stars, but you haven't reached the requirements on the site. After a certain amount of time they'll be moved up or down the hierarchy depending on if you continue posting and signing up to movies.)
supporting actor
Supporting actors have stepped their foot down in the entertainment industry and can even be called established. Despite appearing on screen a few times, people still won't be able to put a name to your face even if they recognise you. You have a pretty good fan base, and the opportunity to make Hollywood connections can come easier. You're liked, but not loved by the majority.
Film actors - 30 posts | One Hollywood Celebrity thread interaction | Two lead roles in movies OR five supporting roles in movies.
TV/Film actors - 20 posts | One Hollywood Celebrity thread interaction | One lead role in a movie and a TV show (lead or supporting role).

hollywood newcomer
Newcomers aren't always necessarily brand new to Hollywood, but they are new to the Hollywood scene. As a newcomer to Hollywood, you've made at least one film that everyone's seen and your name is starting to get thrown at casting directors. You're beginning to get invites to social events, but none that are really relevant. If you don't continue working, you'll be easily forgotten.
Film actors - 15 posts | One lead role in a movie.
TV/Film actors - 10 posts | Worked on a movie (lead or supporting) and working on a TV show.

unknown
Here is where everyone starts. Sure, while you may have appeared in one or two movies and shows, you haven't acquired enough recognition for people to care about who you are. However, if you start making connections and continue auditioning, and you might make it up there sooner than expected.
indie actor
These group of actors aren't interested in money and fame, and are happy doing what they love doing - acting. They also enjoy the freedom in creativity that comes from shooting low budget movies, which tend to be more artsy and real life than the moneymaking commercial films. It's either that, or they refuse to go mainstream because they're too "hip". You won't see these guys unless you're at film festivals, which showcase many independent films like Sundance, Tribeca or Cannes. They appear mostly in independent films, or have minor roles in commercial films.
(PM an admin to be placed in this member group)
CREW HIERARCHY
It's universal knowledge that these guys don't get enough credit for the massive amount of hard work and hours they put into making a movie of TV show. Their mad skills and eye for the screen is the reason why actors look so good on camera, and why these things are so compelling to watch. There's no "I" in "Team" when it comes to working on a production as people such as directors, cinematographers, editors, make-up artists, wardrobe stylists, sound people and more come together to make one powerful group.
supervisor
Here is where every crew member aspires to be. This is where people know your name. They go to a movie because they know you were working on it. You are known by name by people in their homes, not just those that are in the business.
75 posts | Three Hollywood Celebrity/Supervisor thread interactions | Worked on five movies and/or TV shows
department head
Here is where you will be when you can be hired onto a production because everyone knows you do a good job. You get to do all of the big projects and pawn off the projects you don't want to those that are under you.
55 posts | Two Hollywood Celebrity/Supervisor thread interactions | Worked on four movies and/or TV shows
assistant
Here you've been here long enough to be hired on your own merit, but not long enough yet to have made a name to be a lead. Here you'll be labeled as someones assistant. You'll do their work while they are gone and work on the smaller projects throughout the production.
40 posts | One Hollywood Celebrity/Supervisor thread interaction | Worked on three movies and/or TV shows
standby
You aren't new to the industry. You've been around enough for a few people to know your name, but they won't hire just alone. You get hired mainly as a standby, which means you stand around all day and help out when needed instead of being in the action.
25 posts | Worked on one movie and one TV show
trainee
Here is where everyone starts. Sure, while you may have worked on one or two movies and shows, you haven't acquired enough recognition for people to care about who you are. However, if you start making connections and continue working, and you might make it up there sooner than expected.
OTHER CAREERS
Considering the entertainment industry isn't only about actors, you can choose to have your characters be crew members (always needed!) or part of the entourage. As the site's main focus is the process of making films and TV shows and the people around it, we're staying away from things like socialites and media people. These guys aren't part of the ladder.
management
They focus on the business side of the industry, rather it's helping to "manage" and guide a celebrity's career or running a film studio. Examples include managers, publicists, lawyers and studio executives. Since these guys don't star in movies or TV shows (of course) they're separate from the hierarchy and don't move up the ladder like everyone else.
After being accepted, it's essential you sign up to the management sign up thread in the claims board.
entourage
These are the guys who cater to celebrities to make their lives easier. Here you'll find personal assistants, security, stylists or whatever else is in a celebrity's entourage. Since these guys don't star in movies or TV shows (of course) they're separate from the hierarchy and don't move up the ladder like everyone else.
After being accepted, it's essential you sign up to the management sign up thread in the claims board.
