Leaves fell from the tree above Mia who sat on the park bench reading Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. It was one of Mia's all time favourite pieces of English literature; it was a novel which no matter how many times you read it, you had to read it all over again. It was also a novel that she couldn't put down and ignore. One thing she found quite amusing was the fact that if she gave it to someone for them to read, she'd receive from them the most bemused look as they would try to understand the old English language it was written in. At times her friends would mock and read it out loud in an English accent, not even knowing what they were saying. Those were fun times.
Mia turned to the next page. Despite knowing everything that happened, she was always intrigued by what the next page would bring. Right now, as she read, Elizabeth and Lady Catherine were facing-off about Mr. Darcy’s proposal. Eager to continue reading, she quickly turned the page; however her hand jerked away in sudden pain. “Ouch!” Mia cringed before lifting her index finger to see blood dripping. Then, her brown orbs diverted back to the book and onto the page noticing a stain of red. “Damn.” She pouted and sucked her bleeding finger at the same time; she had given herself a paper-cut once again.
That didn’t stop her reading though. Her left hand held down the book that lay on her lap and she continued to read, despite the taste of blood in her mouth. The bleeding was going to stop very soon however, and a second later she pulled her eyes off the page and onto her index finger -- it stopped bleeding. She smugly smiled to herself before immersing herself back into the classical story.
