loves. instruments: guitar ( acoustic ), lute, harmonica, accordion, banjo, violin, cavaquinho, drum ( various ), fiddle, piano; list consistently growing. making sounds/music/instruments out of everyday household items-- like cans, counter tops, combs, boxes, squeeze toys, the floor, cabinet doors, etc. fedoras. eclectic musical taste-- doesn't discriminate against any sound, but rather appreciates the differences. singing in low/deep tones. protests-- if the cause is right, he'll be there with multicolored signs and megaphones. weed. observing the beauty of nature. honey buns. java juice or other similar stores with such drinks. concerts, especially those attempting to channel woodstock days. being on stage. imparting great wisdom. great mysteries. museums.
hates. creative injustice-- for instance, someone stealing or "borrowing" his sound without permission, or absence of freedom of expression. the government is totally against everyone. republicans/conservatives-- rat bastards! people who cling to their religion and force their ideals. people touching his instruments without permission or with oily/gross hands. using the color black to make a "statement"-- posers. countless questions. having to explain what he was 'trying to get across'. gas-guzzling vehicles, especially hummers and over-sized cars. assholes that don't recycle even though there are recycle bins next to the trash cans. litter. rootbeer. artery-clogging foods in massive quantities, and subsequently, fat or gluttonous people ( not necessary because of food, either ). dancing, since he doesn't dance well. conformists.
quirks. always seems to be tapping or plucking at something-- always playing with his surroundings to subconsciously listen to the sound. purchases many strange or obscure instruments just to learn how to play them. keeps his instruments in mint condition and on museum-style display in his apartment. wears fedoras constantly. never without a blunt on his persion. has a designated smoking ( weed ) room in his apartment, otherwise known as the second unused closet. speaks as if he's many generations old and knows what he's talking about-- otherwise, a bullshitter.

secrets. has a thing for older women. a lot of his image is because he thinks it's what many people would consider cool and rebellious-- hence, he's a tad conformist himself. has a two bedroom apartment even though he lives alone... just in case.

* musician *
jd has been a musician since he was a wee toddler. granted, his stuff was more play than anything else. but with two parents involved heavily in the music industry in some form or another, it would have been difficult to shield him from such behaviors. he is a singer, however he performs low-key notes or deep tones, as it's difficult for him to reach that falsetto pitch. jd knows many instruments and the sounds they produce. overall, just an artist in general with a very vocal stance.

* instrument extraordinaire *
over the years, jd has acquired many instruments. they have each been learned in detail and taken care of-- nearly all of them are in mint condition and on display in his apartment. if, of course, he's not needing to use them. because he does use them and has them repaired. these are basically his life force. his greatest ambition in life is to at least play every instrument known to man, and if he can own one of each... that's even better! in some ways, he's attempting to make an instrument museum. but jd doesn't simply use conventional instruments, either. he'll use everyday house items, too. anything, really, that can make a decent sound. they all have their uses and he's out to discover it all.

* imaginative *
this guy has a lot of thoughts and a lot of ideas. some are radical, some are simple. it all depends on the day and how he feels. this lends to his creative aspect, for jd is continuously thinking of music and sounds and how to pit the two together to form something truly awesome. he's appreciative of all styles of music-- he doesn't just associate himself with one particular sound. there's something neat in the combination of things in all music, he feels. though, his idol is bob dylan purely because of the man's insistence to go against the norm and consistently switch his sound. jd wants to one day complete his own masterpiece... only, he's got to figure out what to make of it first.

* hippie-esque *
one could definitely associate jd with the beat generation, or even with hippie like qualities. he's all for human and civil rights, especially when it boils down to freedom of creative expression. he is not afraid to join protests-- in fact, he's likely to be the man with the megaphone and the one orchestrating the entire deal. or helping in some way. and of course, jd has a few of the superficial qualities that are also associated with these groups. for instance, his preference for ray bans and fedoras. owning some bongos. or even the fact that he participates in the use of mild drugs, like marijuana. jd will be the first to advocate the legalization of pot, and doesn't hide the fact he uses it. actually, if one searched his person, he'd be found with some on his person. and of course, he's always on the lookout for those concerts that channel those woodstock days, for it's been one of his dreams to play in one himself. or, at the very least, attend it.

jd is really environmentally conscience. he heartily dislikes people who really don't give a crap. he watches those specials on global warming, and he donates to those foundations geared to save animals on the brink of extinction ( like the polar bears! ). litter makes him twitch, as it just points to the laziness of the human population. and people who don't recycle rub him the wrong way, since there are recycle bins everywhere and they still don't bother to use them. jd does. he even rides a bike everywhere rather than owning a car-- and the only car he'd approve of is a solar-powered one or hybrids. the man is also health conscious. fat, or gluttonous, people deserve what they get, in his mind. they have no right to complain, since it's what they've eaten that's gotten them to where they are. diets are just an easy way to make themselves a target. jd exercises regularly. he imbibes health shakes. he avoids fatty foods. all in the name of experiencing a long and eventful life.

this is a man who thinks highly of himself at times. jd thinks he knows how the world works, and believes he's got a lot of wisdom chalked under his belt to impart to others. he takes pride in thwarting the system. he resists the "man". even though a lot of what he does is for others' benefit. jd wants to be liked, so he does what his version of "cool" is. though, he's not quite as willing to face the fact he's a bit of a hypocrite himself.

oo1. born in san francisco, california. his parents are dean and mel korbin. dean himself is a musician, whose concentration is folk/folk rock. melissa, at this time, was finishing school to follow her own dream to play in an orchaestra-- as a violinist. the two were quite happy together, and showered their son in attention.

oo2. miranda is born a couple years later. by this time, jd can walk and talk well. his father begins to shape his son's life through the things he did. such as bringing him to concerts. giving him toy instruments. jd often found great enjoyment with spoons and shiny surfaces.

oo3. jd learns how to play the guitar, thanks to his father. melissa begins to show him how to play the violin as well. he is an avid student, with the same thirst and passion as his parents. he and his sister both get along decently, only jd is far more concerned at perfecting his talents.

oo4. the family moves to los angeles, where dean's manager is. gracelynn is born soon after. at this time, his mother wanted to finally follow her own career. which meant her support of dean would be absent-- he relied heavily on his wife in this fashion. she took care of the kids and brought them to his concerts. with her trying to make it, it fell upon him to juggle this life. he tried.

oo5. melissa and dean split up when jd began high school. though estranged, they continued to live together for the kids' sake. jd was known as the artsy, rebel type in school. not many students wanted to mess with him or friend him, since he was a little weird. by this time, had learned or taught himself several more instruments-- some with instructors' help or encouragement. at this time, encountered soon-to-be-friends and bandmates, jason and bridgette.

oo6. after an offer to audition for the philharmonic orchestra in new york, melissa moved out there to pursue this dream. she got in. now it was just jd being raised by his father with his two sisters. melissa would call and visit occasionally, if the orchestra toured to the california area. they, too, went to new york to see her. jd had a brief romance with an older college girl, jane, while visiting once. they had met at a poetry shop.

oo7. after high school, jd tours with his band mates to get 'a pizza place' some notoriety. jason and bridgett made the mistake of mixing business with pleasure, and jd had to watch the rift between his friends grow until they eventually divorced. the band partly broke up. after this, it was just he and bridgett. together they formed vintage september. this is around the first time jd actually started to sing as well.

oo8. gets his own apartment. having many instruments now, he uses the apartment to put them on display when they aren't being used. jd purchased a two-bedroomer, even though he's got no roommate. he tells people now that it is just in case he does get one eventually. or if a friend ever needs a place to crash. indeed; his free bedroom often serves that purpose already.

oo9. jd recently got involved with drugs. with his life and career, and all the people he knows now, it's far too easy to get some weed. he uses it a lot and says it helps open up his mind and creative juices. he's designated one of the closets in his apartment as the 'smoking room'.

o10. currently, he is learning to play the accordion. his ambition is to meet bob dylan and also play every instrument known to man, if that's possible. he wants to turn his collection of instruments into a museum one day, which is why he keeps them in such great repair. he visits family often. while touring with bridget, he's able to see his mother in new york. only recently has jd gotten involved in sound editing for films as well, thanks to bridget's request. not terribly interested in this position, he does so to help pay the bills while vintage september gains notoriety.
