quirks. 1. He frequently bites on the insides of his lips and the walls of flesh inside his mouth, often biting too hard by accident. He suffers from chapped skin on his lips too and can't resists biting it off. 2. He tends to have this routine of making sure his outfit is alright, in terms of buttons and being tucked in and checking trouser flies. Sometimes he does the flies thing out of nerves, but sometimes he will be shifting in his jacket and sorting out his sleeves. 3. Alfie likes to carry a tissue on his person at all times. He finds nothing more disgusting then seeing people coughing or sneezing without covering their faces appropriately and spreading their germs, he would hate to do that.
aspirations. 1. Get married to his lady! 2. Visit Australia and New Zealand. 3. Finally finish the fictional book he started when he was in his thirties. 4. Buy a boat. Not a big, overly-luxurious one, he would just like a boat. 5. Morbid, I know, but he would aspire to die in Vienna if he had the choice and be buried there.
secrets. 1. Alfie travels a great deal but he's actually terrified of flying. He has to take anti-anxiety medication before flights and generally tries to sleep through it (or at least, hides behind his eye mask with headphones in). 2. He disapproves of the way Christoph goes through women, he wants the boy to grow up and start taking life more serious. 3. The previous secret might be more true because he wants grandchildren. He knows Caroline has no desire to be a mother and not just because she is a lesbian. And at this rate, he's either going to have no grandchildren from Chris...or lovechilds galore from the way that boy gallivants around! 4. He'd love to have another child, with Erika. But he's apprehensive because of the way his kids (or Caroline at least) might take it.
personality evaluated. Alfred is a quiet and humble, down-to-earth chap. He's a gentleman, in a old fashioned and traditional sense of the word. He pulls out chairs and olds open doors, he stands up when a lady is leaving the dinner table in restaurants and he'll foot the bill. He's the epitome of class, influenced by his old-Hollywood-esque parents. He's a relaxed guy and despite his occupation as an actor, Alfie is quite a shy guy. Not painfully, but just enough. He's not totally comfortable during events and press tours or on red carpets but he always maintains a laidback attitude. He takes everything in his stride, he's not a person to rush anything or overwhelm himself. He likes to keep a happy balance, he's always tried to find a happy medium. He's not at all stubborn, he's happy to compromise and always ready to be civil. He's the worst enemy, in a sense that he simply can't be people's enemy - he's the most anti-confrontational and argumentative person you'll know. If fact, it makes him uncomfortable and upset to know that he's pissed someone off badly or offended them. He plays the role of a villain very well but even then, he is weirdly likeable! He's one of those people that you can't help but enjoy the company of.
While he is shy, he is not awkward. Alfred 'goes with the flow'. His shyness does not prevent him from being social and he gets on very well with people. He likes people, he likes meeting them and talking to them, getting to know them. People fascinate him, especially actors. Because you see them everywhere but you usually only know the basics and specifics about their actual lives and backgrounds. He likes hearing people's histories and hearing the old funny stories. And he loves acting. He likes stepping into someone's shoes and getting to tell someone's story. He doesn't act to be famous or make money, he acts to tell a story to an audience and to portray a vital character. All characters are vital to him, the smallest roles are significant because they support the main characters and help the story progress. And Alfred is a dedicated family man. He makes the effort to stay good friends with his ex-wife because it's not like he doesn't have love for her, he's just not in love with her. He doesn't like it when there are rifts in the family. Especially when they are reported on to the masses. He likes his private life to be exactly that. Private. Which will prove impossible the more successful he becomes.
He is quite shocked at the response of his role as Hans Landa. The last couple of months have been tiring simply because of all the events he's been going to! Picking up awards which acknowledge how well he portrayed the Colonel. Alfie feels blessed and incredibly thankful. He's thankful for most things really, for his children and his beautiful fiancée; for his career and for good health. We all complain a bit every now and then but life is a lot worse for other people and Alfie knows this. He's a compassionate guy, he'll say that he's starving but then he'll feel bad for saying so when there really are people starving all over the world. He's thoughtful like this and when he's not focused at work or at the task at hand, he can be a bit of a daydreamer. He's an imaginative man and when he has the time and patience to, he likes to write. He's also a passionate cook and enjoys trying new recipes. He likes cooking for other people, especially his lover. Alfred is a total romantic. Romance is what his son lacks, though he is charming like dad too! You could even say that Alfie is a bit of a hopeless romantic: he loves the idea of love and having someone waiting for you to come home, waiting to see you and hold you and kiss you.

history evaluated. Before he featured in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards, the United States barely even recognised the name Alfred Anders as an actor. They knew his parents, but it was only when he was cast as "SS Colonel Hans Landa" that America was properly introduced to the Austrian-born actor. Born on October 04, 1956 in Vienna to an Austrian screenplay writer and an American actress, Alfred Josef Anders had wanted to become an actor from around the age of nine when he played the role of a son to his mother's character in one of her films. It was a non-speaking role because he spoke with an Austrian accent and the film was set in America, but just being on the set and being in that atmosphere lit a fire inside of Alfie. He had admired his mother for a long time, she had been an actress ever since she was five years old and was well known through the late 30's and all the way through the 40's for her appearances. She had also featured in Broadway, exercising her love of the stage and of singing.
Alfie had always been in awe of her, and she was more than happy to encourage the boy into acting. He attended private schooling all through his life and was a frequent partaker of exchange student programs. By the time he was eighteen, he was fluent in German, English, French and Italian. He went on to study acting at Max Reinhardt Seminar in Austria and Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York before returning back to Europe where he began work on stage then television in most German-speaking countries. He met his first wife, French actress Adrienne Leroy, at a film festival in France in 1980. They married two years later and had two children (fraternal twins) with. However the relationship didn't last past the late nineties and the pair divorced but remained very good friends and shared parenting responsibilities over Caroline and Christoph.
Alfie began working in films in his late twenties to early thirties. He began to focus more on film roles than television roles, giving up his reoccurring role in a German television drama and became well known in European cinema during the nineties into the new millennium, thanks to being multi-lingual he was able to feature in films for French-speaking, Italian-speaking and English-speaking countries. Alfred's biggest break of all came when he met with director Quentin Tarantino and producer Lawrence Bender, auditioning for a role in their next project. The role went to the Austrian, who, according to Tarantino, "gave me my movie back," as he felt the movie couldn't be made without Landa as a character but feared the part was "unplayable."
And now people all around the world know who Alfred Anders is. His portrayal of the Colonel has been widely and warmly received by critics and fans alike and nothing showed how well he played his character then the multitude of awards for best supporting actor that would soon follow: Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor, Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actor, Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture and Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role - to name a few. And now the offers won't stop coming in, to the point that he feels overwhelmed and is not eager to take every and any one that comes his way (not that he could, there really was a ridiculous amount).
Right now he is taking a short break, having been working hard filming and promoting IB, and showing up to a lot events in the past year. But he plans to resume filming very soon. He travels a lot for work and family (his ex-wife lives in New York as does their daughter) and used to live in New York until he recently bought a home in Los Angeles with his IB co-star, German actress Erika Holtz, who he began dating in early 2009 and proposed to in January 2010. Despite the actress being twenty years his junior, the couple are incredibly fond of each other and have a healthy relationship. Though his daughter despises the relationship which breaks Alfie's heart because he just wants his family to get along and be happy.
