filming was fun, ninety percent of the time. usually, kat had a great time because she got to portray a new person and explore them as a character, try new things and branch out. she got to meet new people and play up on new emotions. it was interesting and it kept her going, always wanting to come back to work. however, the other ten percent of her time was spent sitting around on set, waiting for something to happen, waiting in her trailer, waiting for makeup or waiting for her hair, or simply staying in her hotel not doing a damn thing. when this ten percent happened, it was sad for katalina. she loved acting, to be sure, but she was beginning to realize how lonely it was. so she had a talk with her director and producer and they worked out a deal--they would film any scenes with kat in them before the weekend so she could go to north carolina to visit her friends on their set in north carolina. she was looking forward to it so much that she almost skipped the last scene she was supposed to film and left, but she wasn't going to be that irresponsible. after all, hadn't she spent the past couple of weeks being irresponsible with corey and cash?
being that she was going to be flying to north carolina early saturday morning, she wore a pair of sweat pants and a t-shirt for maximum comfort. nothing was worse than being on a plane in uncomfortable clothes. besides, she would be getting there close to ten in the morning on saturday and kat figured she would just check into a hotel and pretty up then. the flight was pretty uneventful--kat supposed that was the advantage of flying first class on small canadian flights. a lot of the time, kat liked it when people didn't recognize her at all. she loved simply introducing herself as "kat," instead of being recognized as "kat stevenson" and whipping out a pen for an autograph. sure, the face and recognition had its perks. but sometimes it was nice to walk down a street, see a total stranger, and be a total stranger. what was the fun in meeting new people if they already knew who you were? so when kat got off the flight around nine and no one greeted her as a famous actress, she happily went on her way to the hotel she'd booked the night before.
kat checked in with no incident and dropped her bags off on her bed before immediately making her way to the shower. it was barely lunch time and kat would have plenty of time to pop up on the set and have lunch with kate and jules. she hadn't told either of them about the trip, since it was so last minute but figured it would be a nice surprise. and if it wasn't, then oh well. she was getting away from her set and if they weren't happy to see her then she would still be somewhat happy to be there. throwing on a flowy sundress, some flip flops and a pair of sunglasses, kat flounced out the door and took a cab to the set where they were currently filming "camp knockout." once or twice kat had thought about auditioning for it, since her two friends were also starring in it but her manager warned her that independent films didn't bring enough money to support her lifestyle and wouldn't bring the proper amount of publicity. so instead, she'd signed on with a vampire flick, which had so far been a great decision for her. it was interesting and fun, and gave her plenty of chances to branch out as an actress.
flashing her ID and a winning smile at a couple of guards and explaining her plans to those who were skeptical of letting her in, kat sneaked in. a back door to one of the sets that wasn't being used at the moment was open and kat slipped in quietly, wondering where kate and jules would be right now, if filming had stopped for lunch. maybe they'd already left? maybe they were still filming on a different set? just as kat had decided to turn around and leave, the door caught on her dress and shut. "damn it!" kat whispered, trying to open the door to free the skirt of her dress. this would be her luck, wouldn't it? the door wouldn't open for anything--her dress had jammed into the lock somehow and wasn't about to budge. what was she supposed to do? call for help? if she did that, not only would she die of embarrassment and this story would end up on the cover of at least three major magazines, kate and jules would know she was here and she wouldn't be able to surprise them. damn it.
